Hey guys, I built three 6x 405nm , this time using Flex drive V2 for better current stability.  Battery this time is 18650 Ultrafire
More on my "Stingray II" mod here: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1227480699

I am using standard (cut out back) aixiz acrylic lens.

EDITED:
One set at 215mA is outputting  207-210mW , and second at the same current outputting 214-216mW

Third one, meant for more extreme cycle testing i set to 230mA and is outputting 258-260mW  (330mW without lens !! )

- I should not to you that i accidentally sent to this third diode over 420mA for about 2-4 seconds, and I cought with a corner of my eye 332mW on my kenometer, but it was all just moments. Luckily it didn't fry.
After that it showed more optical output than the other two at the same current. At 200mA this diode outputs 215mW and at 215mA it outputs 234mW. Maybe because it got shaken with almost half an amp of current  it works differently fro other two.

here are few pics of mod implementing Drlava's board.

Two are possibly sold already to one of my old customers as an upgrade. Third one 260mW is mine, but for now, they are all for us to find out durability.

I don't have sophisticated way such as Igor to test them, but i can do practical tests as i have few 3 power meters, and a clock timer ;D
I guess every bit of info of these 6x diodes is important now. I know i want to know :-) Paying over $50 for diode as hobby is not something everyone can do and risk ruining.

I am looking at battery life, and behavior, as well as how warm heat sink gets at room temperature at different duty cycles.

Also, of coarse, i monitor any changes in optical output.

if anyone else is testing 6x too, please post your findings.

as for sale, i will build more if these two do get sold. If not, i might offer them here.

Ok, first results:

I ran 2 min ON and 2 min OFF cycles 20 times in a row for 215mA units.

- Only slight warming of the heat sink noticeable and it stayed same from after first 2-3 ON cycles till the 20th.
- Power remained the same for both ~200mW units except that one of them (207mW) after it cooled down completely and i tested it again seems to have dropped 5-6mW outputting 202mW.
That's a little strange, but i don't think its due to initial current sent to it. I could be just the way this particular diode behaves.
I left it ON for 10 min straight and it was steady at about 202mW. Than later on i measured it at 205-6mW.   HMMMM!

i noticed that Kenometar's reading are very dependent on where at the large round sensor you shoot the beam at. If you chenge upwards, power rises, if you go towards "6 o'clock" it drops. Also it depends how focused beam is or how big dot on is hitting the sensor. But if you keep it consistent yu can learn to use it quite accurately.

So far at 215mA i see no major problem. Batteries haven't even dropped below 4V on multimeter.

Now the 258mW unit had a bit tougher test, as i said it would.
I ran it cycles of 4min ON and 2min OFF  10 times in a row. Unit absolutely behaved stable in every way. Heat sink got a bit more warm as expected, but just like with other two, it did not change after third or fourth cycle, which means its efficiently working.

Then I ran another test of 10 cycles in the row of 4-5-6min ON and 2min off between. It performed perfectly, no powerr drop, no increase in heating, no battery drainage. After almost 2 hrs of ON battery was still at 4V.

so, so far so good.

does anyone else have any experience to share with 6x durability at different currents - duty cycles. I read Igors tests but nothing recently.

O, one more thing.  215mW  unit burns holes in white printer paper from 2-3 feet away like instantly. You can almost write on it. 258mW unit even crazier !!

best regards

Dude how old are you? :-?

Does this answer your question cause I saw the big bang.

What bang was that? When the doctor dropped you on your head when you were born? ;D Or when your dad put a shotgun in his mouth when he saw your face for the first time?  :o

Re: 210mW >  405nm STINGRAYS  testing be

don't know what you two are arguing about, but this is  wrong "ring"  for it in any case.

all i gotta say is that my 260mW is still kicking very solid !!  [smiley=beer.gif]

i have been busy with other stuff lately, but i turn it on for few minutes every day and check for power changes. So far so solid !!! (255-260mW)
The other two lower powered ones (~210mW) i don't have any more as they have new owner,

best regards
