That's a short open can. And in case you want to keep the 5mW diode from the module (which I doubt) you can take it out like this: (pic by rog8811)

That looks like it should work great . I got 3 of these housings for future projects, so i have 2 more chances to not damage the 5mw diode. But what would it be good for?

That dowel technique worked nicely. Got the other diodes out intact.
