200mw and no beam?

I ordered and recieved a 200mw red cyber from lazerer, with the certificate rating it at a full 218mw. I am not able to see the beam of this laser, even in pitch black night. It can burn, and is noticeably more powerful than my 80mw blue laser. I can see the blue's beam just fine, and is slightly brighter than my 60mw green for some reason. Overall question: Why can't I see the beam of this powerful burner? thanks for all the info.

Your colour perception may be shifted towards the blue end of the spectrum and therefore you don't perceive red that well.

200mW of red is not all that visible without some fog in the air as it is, sometimes it depends on the angle you are viewing it on.

Your laser has a bright red dot, right? Not a dark red dim dot... if so you have an 808nm or IR laser.

The blue ~450nm is far more visible than the red ~660nm. At least to me.

To see it well, you will need some smoke or fog.

If I'm looking at the right product on their site that should be a 200mw 650nm red which you should easily see in a darkened room. I have a similar power build that I have no problem seeing the beam from. If you can't see the beam in a dark room while looking parallel to where it should be I'd contact lazerer if it's within their warranty and check into a replacement. Their products seem to be pretty good but there's always a chance it may have been damaged in shipping.

If you turn out all the lights and look from behind the laser along the beam you should see it faintly. I have a 1 Watt 637nm red that is only faintly visible and I have had a 200mw 660nm red that I could faintly see in the daytime (it picked up dust particles in the air anyway).

Maybe my red cones are shifted towards the IR? I can see 740nm almost as bright as I can see 660nm and 808 and 850nm look like dark red but very easy to see.

EDIT: corrected to 637nm from 473nm

This is my 270mW 660nm taken in the middle of the day with a phone camera (not overexposed) with lots of cat fur in the air.

Another Argon?

And I'm so jealous :p

Nope, i have bought a 100mw 473nm DPSS :D
473nm isn't an argon line - the nearest is 476.5nm. Mind you I do want a multi line argon *sigh*.

I thought my love for multiple colour high power LED's was bad, laseres cost more :S

No the 488 on it's way. You already picked up your Argon didn't you?

473 I'm dying to see IRL.

So...... from the posts above which is it...

Can you see the beam dot on a surface...

To see the beam in air try boiling some water and shine
your Laser's beam through the steam...
Do you see it now...

The 488nm argon is the photo in my avatar I picked it up a couple of weeks ago :) I can take a pic of it now with a note if you want lol

Here is the 473 ive bought (I don't have it yet).

Ah I read your post wrong. I thought you had a 445, 488 and 473 all pending delivery.

Anywho, back on track

I have an loc driven at 300ma and I can see the beam in my lit basement (about as bright as "mood" lighting) especially well in a smoke filled garage, and faintly on a really clear night (not sure about an average night). It might be your eyes as earlier mentioned. My 1W blue isn't nearly as visible as all the 1W pictures here are.
