1xAA Blu-Ray from Ebay






If this is as easy as removing the LED emitter and soldering in the blu-ray diode, then we could be on to a really cheap setup here. $6 for the light from DX, and $10 (+$15 for shipping) for a busted XBOX 360 Blu-ray drive from Tech Graveyard on Ebay. Add an Aixis housing, some Eneloops, time to assemble and we're at what, $40-$50 for a completed Blu-ray unit? That's dirt cheap!

So, any updates on this? I'm soon getting my hands on a PHR-803T diode and is looking around for a good (and cheap) host. My main concern right now is finding one that will fit a lavadrive. I really like the look on this one (and especially the prize :P), but my main concern is whether the lavadrive will fit in this thing or not. The boost driver that comes with the flashlight seems to be pretty good, but I want to drive it with a little more than 40 mA :P Can anyone who has one of these say if the lavadrive will fit or not?

The boost driver was not from the light.

Lavadrive2 needs >2.5v.
 
Yeah, I know it needs >2.5V. I read something here on the forums a few days ago about AA sized 3.6V lithium batteries and was thinking I could use one of those. It might have been 3V too, I'm not too sure.

Btw, what boost driver did you use?
 
i used the driver that came with the light and just added a resistor ;)

Nice! Really nice! Do you have any idea of how many mW it outputs? I might just go for this setup first and maybe change to something else later for more output :P
 
i used a xbox diode not the 803t diode, but i used a 33ohm resistor, the next one im doing im going to use a pot there is plenty of room in side for one so u can adjust the output, and here is a pic of the output of this laser

So if I leave out the resistor and just use the circuit, what will happen? Will I fry the diode, get more output, get more heat, or what will happen? I'm not realy good at this electric stuff, I just know the basics ;D
 
I see... :/ Sorry for asking so much, but what would the current be? And as a side question, is 100mA a safe current for a PHR-803T diode? I recently got in on the GB for them and is trying to find out as much as I can to prevent destroying anything :D
