this my first laser just got it today its a 405nm focus-able laser 301 from ebay and came with 1x 18650 battery and 1x battery charger picked it up for $22 did i get a good deal

also whats your guess for power range cuz its marked >5mw but it burns stuff:evil:

Your laser is most likely overspec and around 30 or so mw :D

Where did you get it? :)

Yep pretty hard to find an actual 5mw these days. EBay sellers don't mind as the extra power actually entices most buyers so they don't care. Good first laser!

How high powered does a 405nm laser have to be to be able to see the beam??
I have two more on the way too as you aware of a site where I could pick up a cheap tripod

Nice laser you got

Im still saving for my 405nm Electra :(

But to be able to see a beam you are going to need at least 100mW if not more.

Thanks for the heads up power wise and I look forward to hearing what the LPM has to say

+1 to you all for your help and kindness around the holidays

I'd be surprised if it was that much. I'm currently with the OH's family and they have a 405 pen style laser, either an ebay or deal extreme jobbie, its most likely overspec but I doubt very much it's anywhere near 100mW, and you can actually see the beam, faintly, in a dark room.

Are different wavelengths different as far as beam visibility??

Yes. To put it simply, 555nm is the wavelength at which our eyes are most sensitive to light. Anything deviating above or below that spectrum is less visible the further you go along the light spectrum. If you want more information you should use the search button :tinfoil:

Correct! For light-adapted eyes 555nm is peak :)

But for dark-adapted eyes the peak wavelength is somewhere around 507nm.
