150mW O-like "Cute" or 130mW WL E2 Evolution

Yea i saw that 100mw review, i was curious if that was what you were referring to. I already purchased the 150mw cute laser back when that was a positive review, he edited it after it broke on him. that is why i'm debating on buy the Evolution also since it seems like a great laser, it's already too late to put the money of the O-like towards it since it will be at my house any day now. I also have the 200mW S1 Sonar coming as well, it should also be here any day, they claim they are starting to ship them over the next 3-4 days, but i've heard that before!! lol
 





Oh okay. Well you are kind of tied in now I guess. But O-Like does have good customer support. However, there trust was kind of thrown with me because I emailed Susie several times about this exact laser, even wondering if she could overspec it for me. No response. :undecided:
 
My friend and I were having a war with out lasers from over a mile away. He has a 150mW DragonLasers Hulk and it was just a tad brighter than the evolution. However, the Evo has a much tighter beam.
 
WOW! I ordered my WL 130mW Evolution Pro on Sunday (8/15) and got it today on Tuesday (8/17), that is amazing!! My O-like 150mw was ordered on 8/4 and i'm still waiting for it. The total time of the WL from order to receiving is less than the time it took O-like just to ship theirs.

Unfortunately the sheet that came with the E2 states that it is barely overspec, a mean output of 135mw and max of 153mw, i've seen people with 100mw versions with similar numbers and yours "Pasleyt" at 175mw. My power meter shipped last week sometime so i will know the true numbers soon. The finish isn't as pristine as some have claimed on their E2, few scratches and rubbed off paint. Feels solid though and has a great beam with barely any divergence. It can still light a match in about 2 seconds.

Both my power meter and O-like should be here any day in which i will post a full review and comparison of both lasers.
 
Yea it is!! Definitely better than the O-like! Which just arrived.

First impressions: I understand why they call it cute since that was the first thing i said when i saw it! It is a lot smaller than I expected. The E2 is 1.5x the length of the O-like laser and the width at the largest part of the E2 is about the same as the "Cute" but overall the "Cute" is wider.

At noon in a semi-light room with some sunlight I could tell the E2 was brighter and I could tell the difference in divergence just across my living room. WL E2 is definitely a better laser but I'm charging the batteries now since i don't know if they came charged or not.

My LPM should get here tomorrow and then i will hopefully write up a full review/comparison of both.
 
Yeah I would like to see that review. Hopefully the O-Like Laser doesn't burn out its a great build in my opinion.

I agree, so far I really like the host of the O-like! In a sense it almost feels like someone made it out of parts from the hardware store and not a commercially polished product like the E2. The O-like feels very nice, the lines throughout the body provide nice grip, all the threads are very smooth and has a nice tight feel when the caps and focusing lens reach the max. The bright orange power button goes well with the black body but also shows you what direction should be facing away.

I'm glad i have both actually, with the small size i could easily see myself taking this places. Considering it cost me half as much, if something happened to it i wouldn't be as devastated as i would with the E2. It's still $100 so I won't intentionally trash it, but I won't be afraid to use it either.

The E2 rocks.I was using mine last night(100mw E2) when I noticed the beam comes out straight, and not at a slight angle like my older Evo does.This is mentioned in the reviews done of free Evo's sent to some forum members.
I very much look forward to your review.As it is, I decided to risk buying the E2 from wicked and got super fast shipping and an excellent laser.I am very happy with it.Mine peaks at 120 and averages 115mw.It dips for a short time to 110mw in the printout they sent.I can't wait to see what your meter says since I have only a low power(28mw and below) meter.
Does the o-like have an ir filter?That would be good to know.

As far as i know the O-like does not have an IR filter, they generally state when they do and i think O-like only has them on their more powerful 300mW diodes. The O-like is great for burning though since i can focus the beam to a VERY small dot up close.

Be careful burning with it.I hope your goggles block IR, otherwise you could damage your eyes!
My E2 burns well....but now that I have achieved the silly light a match benchmark, it is no longer as consuming to me.Epic beam viewing is what I am really enjoying...what fun!There is an article with a link in it in the science section on this site that references a NIST paper on how to test for IR in inexpensive green pointers.I would love to see what the o-like measures with an IR filter between it and the power meter.I have a couple of old GLP units made by Casix that incorporate the IR filter in the screw off pointer cover.Which is cool if I ever want to test for IR percentage if I get a LPM good for more power.
 
Yea that's actually a good idea! i would like to know what the IR output is. Here are my goggles, doesn't look like a lot of IR protection. I know they aren't actually intended for the green since 532nm is just at the edge of its protection, I really got them for my Arctic and S1 Sonar that are coming.

I'm into burning and pointing, really the reason i got both, one to burn and one to point and actually they each have a specialty

I know they make goggles for IR with green.Don't burn with the goggles you have with the o-like until you know how much IR is present.I bet it is a fairly high amount.Better safe than sorry...especially if you like beam viewing as much as I do!I have seen this subject raised here before so I hope someone chimes in with good goggles for your application.IR scares me for 2 reasons.1) There is no aversion response and 2) Damage shows up the next day.You may feel no pain, yet harm your retinas.

I just got back from a class on a high speed color production copier, and one of the guys related how his eye doctor had asked him if he played with lasers...because he saw laser caused retinal damage.He injured himself at work by sticking a tool in the beam of a copier's IR laser and getting hit by the reflection.He remembered working with the interlocks defeated in the beam area of one machine.It was the only time he could have been exposed...and he felt nothing at the time.
Lesson....be very careful with invisible laser light!

Off topic but interesting.The laser diodes in the color copy/printer machine I just trained on have 4 IR beams.One die, with 4 laser diodes on it.And the machine has 4 of these for a total of 16 beams!(4 beams for each color drum in the machine).Even using beam interlacing while writing to the drums the mirror motor used to scan the beams still turns more than 29,000 rpm!
All that to achieve 90 color prints a minute on 11x17 paper...pretty cool.

I want to ask you if you have measured the output of your evo with lithium vs alkalines.My Evo Pro 40mw prefers alkalines.Tests tonight with my E2 Fusion indicate a preference for the lithiums.(this sucks since 4 AA lithium Energizer AA are currently 9 dollars at least...AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH!)
Burning is greatly enhanced with the lithiums on my E2 Fusion....is this your experience as well?
 
I can test it when the meter gets here, i expected it a few days ago. I was just guessing by the amount of time it took my O-like to cross the boarder and get to my house and the meter coming from Canada but it still isn't here, and for some reason USPS sucks about updating for foreign packages, it just updated yesterday saying it landed in NJ 4 days earlier.
