Cool! Will try to disassemble mine as soon as I accidentally mar the metal enough to justify cranking it apart with pliers. Shouldn't be too long.
 





Its pretty easy once you have cracked the seal for the first time. And its only the ring at the front that gets mashed up.... I dont really care about that. a lot easier than taking a new wish apart. ;)

Hows your focusing ring holding up? loctite seems to work very well, it fills the threads in nicely. I let it set for a week or so, then decided to break the 'lock' with pliers. thats when i noticed the swich was off centre. And it loosened nicely. I've been focusing for a few days and its holding good. The only downside is the loctite flakes a way a little...

Mine's holding up ok. It was wobbly, so I used some teflon plumbers tape, but the threads promptly shredded the tape (I like to change focus a lot). You said the driver looks just like the o-like blu-ray driver? I wonder if they both have the same max output, and if they are powerful enough to drive bigger diodes... I see a plan forming in the side-ring of that circus I call my brain :eg:
 
Yeah, the teflon tape doesnt last long....i had to change it every day nearly... loctite is the way forward my friend!

Yup, it looks exactly the same, apart from the swich is missing on the driver on the website. I wil post a couple of pics i took of the driver later tonight when I get home.

There is a lot of epoxy holding the diode and driver in place....so changing the diode is gonna be a PITA, but if you were to put a PHR in there.......good things could happen. dunno if 200mA is enough for a X6.......*checks*

So, I nudged the potentiometer (that thing is hard to get to through the button hole). I gave up after about 30 minutes, thinking I had not gotten it to budge, but now my laser can light matches easy! I also attribute that to the fact that I replaced the "Bulletline" (no-name) alkalines with relabeled Sanyo LSD NiMH cells as well, but I'm decently sure that the batteries alone only added a tiny bit of extra oomph. After putting a blackened match at the focal point, it fires within 2 seconds! Don't have balloons, because come on, who just randomly has balloons?

I'm pretty sure that it's the same blu-ray driver as the one for sale individually on o-like.com.

Here is the pics i took of the driver.

The pot is almost impossible to reach and ajust from the button hole. you need to get inside to ajust it properly.

I have been using energiser lithiums for the most part. (I have yet to change them after about 3 weeks or so.) cheap rechargables to begin with. so Ican't really comment on power increase with batteries. But ajusting the pot increases the power by a fair bit, at least double. but with no way to mesure current going to the diode its anybodys guess. (We shall see how long it lasts...)

Lighting matches is good fun. Saftey matches work well. also cutting PVC tape is pretty cool. ;) Both Red and black tape works well. I have yet to pop a bloon with mines as well.....
 
Did you crank yours as far as it would go?

Also, too bad all that hot glue is there, would be nice to see the backside of the diode. So you used vice and wood blocks? do you have to cut round cutouts in the wood or did just chunks of wood work?

I fiddled some more with the pot on mine, lights matches as soon as I hit the focal point :drool:

Thinking about getting some safety goggles from the F/S section. My AAA eneloops are running low and I still don't have a charger, but whatever. Alkalines will keep the current down :yh:

These are sweet little units for the price!
 
Damn work pc lets me see every post but this one. :(

The epoxy being there sucks, makes changing the diode that much harder. And i didn't use a vice, I used the method described in my first post to remove the module. now it comes out all to easy. i can almost pull it out with my hands now.

I did turn it up to see how much brighter it got, It got at least twice as bright as to begin with with one quater turn of the pot. after that it seems to drop in power. so i set it at about 1/8th of a turn higher that origonaly.

I have noticed a lot of 'splash' developing on the lense the past week. looks like a star almost. :/

I hardly touch my DX green pen now. I mainly play with this. There are indeed great little pens for the price.
 
Got some downtime, I'll try that with a pair of pliers. I've already marred the surface of that ring, might as well go the rest of the way :p
For the price, these things are amazing! I just wish I knew how to identify diodes like some of the members here!

Edit: would you recommend some normal pliers that have those big teeth or some needlenose that have many tiny ridges?
