Reaching new heights with its scalable building block approach for compact, electric laser weapons, Northrop Grumman Corporation...

:o

It seem Northrop Grumman and I have differing opinions of what constitutes a "compact" laser...

18% electrical efficiency ::)

That's 1/2 Mega Watts of electrical power.

The laser can be mounted on a tank or whatever, but anything short of a aircraft carrier won't be able to power it.

18% also tells me that they used nd:yag pumped by diodes, not arc lamps.

plenty of power plants make more than 1GW. .5MW is not much if you have access to power lines.

The overhead power lines that supply a town carry 7000 volts? you'd only need 70A. :)
