Hi, i am a 13 year old boy that has recently bought a 5mw Chinese green laser as at said on eBay. Today it finally came in the mail, and when i read the danger label, it said the output power is <1000mw. I have safety glasses for it, but i am scared about the IR light. I am wondering, since it is so high powered, should i throw it away? I think i am too young for this much laser power. The laser requires 2 CR123 batteries, and it comes with 2 safety keys. Please tell me in the comments what your opinion is about this, if i should keep it, or if i should throw it away.

Well, regardless of what you do decide I don't think "throwing it away" is something you should consider. The laser label says it is under 1000mW, that's what the chevron (<) means. It could be anything from 1 to 999mW.
Without metering it you would never know what the power is but the process these green lasers use to actually make the green light, means that if it is not IR filtered you will be getting a potentially dangerous amount of leaked IR light.
If you don't feel comfortable using it you are welcome to sell it. if you had the money you could also buy safety goggles that protect from IR, like these: Eagle Pair® 190-540nm & 800-2000nm Laser Safety Goggles
Another alternative is to put it away in its box and not use it until you feel ready, or remove the tailcap and keys and give them to your parents until you/they deem you ready to use it.

Eagle Pair is a good brand, make sure you get those. Playing around with these lasers can be very dangerous if you aren't careful. Just remember to never have any laser light enter any eyes, aimed at any vehicles, or aimed at mirrors and such and you should be pretty safe. It takes time to get used to messing around with lasers :beer:

If you bought a 5 mw green laser for the price of a 5mw green laser it surely is not a 1000 mw laser ^^ just a false label, thats all. its chinese
I do somewhat agree with that statement, but it would be a high price to pay if it did in fact turn out to be a 1000mw laser. It's even possible that whoever grabbed the product to ship it, mistakenly grabbed the wrong one and what you received is indeed closer to 1000mw. My advice would be to not even put batteries in it until you have safety glasses and treat it as a 1000mw laser unless you have it tested and confirm that it is 5mw. I just built a 2000mw 445nm laser, and I am pretty attached to my eyesight, so I'm not interested in risking losing it.
