I ordered a 100 mw laser pointer 532 nm green of the net and i was wondering what would happen if it reflected in to the eyes?

Would a 100mw green laser ignite paper and what type of safty glasses would i need for a 100mw 532 nm green laser?

When storing it would i need to keep the batterys out incase its a fire hazard?

Also what is the law in the uk for having one of these on you?

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230249575252&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

This is the laser i brought and on the listing it said it can light matches and burst ballons.

I will need to get some safty glasses anyways. coz you only get 1 set of eyes

NEVER buy a laser off of eBay! Almost EVERY laser off of ebay doesn't output half of the advertised output, you are most likely not going to be burning anything with that laser :( I hope you get lucky, but if you get a bad one return it and buy an X100 from Novalasers.com instead.

A 100mW should be able to light matches and pop balloons. But light paper... probably not.

Ooh. eBayser... very risky to buy from there. Sure, it's cheap lasers. But cheap doesn't always mean value, especially with green lasers.

That means we have to pinpoint the manufacture of that pointer, because if it turns out a good manufacturer made it, you got a good deal. The case looks like a spymodex: http://www.spymodex.com/laser002.htm apart from the battery configuration. Hmm... tricky one, need someone more experienced than me. :)

yea I bought a 5 mw one from ebay sucker burned everything poped ballons but i could only imagine how much of the power was ir my friend begged me for it so now its his ir monster oh i told him how dangerous it could be if not used correctly

I got mw 5mw green laser today how can i tell if there is a ir filter or not?
You don't need to worry much about IR from a 5mw green. Just don't look into it and you should be fine.

With a 200mw you definitely need to watch out for IR. Standard 532nm goggles won't block the IR and if you use the laser for burning things you will damage your eyes without noticing anything wrong. You can buy goggles that block IR and 532nm but those cost a lot more.
