The arctics are usually under 1W, my vote is for getting a laser that was actually built by a member here. Blord, Yobresal, etc,.

I think I found the one you were talking about, THIS ONE is $210 for a 2W.
I am also looking into building lasers, I have an understanding of them I've just never assembled one before. Even though I am going to be trying my hand at building lasers I want a good quality laser to compare with.
EDIT: I've been considering trying to make THIS LASER as my first home made laser and then moving on assembling my own module like THIS ONE
