Send them a copy of the packing notice that shows partial shipment. They may be able to work with that.

Good information, but you may want to keep in mind that many people these days have likely never seen an 'A' size battery unless they're working with very specific or older equipment. :)

You're definitely not the only one. Sometimes, it's UPS/Fedex/etc that is in the wrong, and sometimes it's the desk clerk at the apartments. 1: You were correct the first time. You would connect the transistor across the resistor from collector to emitter (drain-source). The transistor, when saturated, should turn the resistor into a near short. By doing this, it would take the resistance out of the sense segment of the LM317's...
