for the heat sink Ill be taking an intel stock cooler, (75W+TDP rated) and boring a hole through the center slug to mount the laser's 12mm copper module. that should certainly be enough.
how much would you ask for a 505 case neutral one? it seems these case positive ones are going to be slightly more annoying to drive than I had anticipated.
so where are you all getting these diodes from besides DTR? If I could get a ~500nm one that would be fantastic, I would happily pay the full $35 or so.
I am assuming at a full dive current or 1.8-2A it would be closer to 470nm? because I think ~485 is the best blue around so if I can get it closer that is better.
As for the PSU, I am replacing the potentiometers driving it, it was an amazing PSU for the price, however it does has some made...
and now it is dead, my power supply has touchy knobs, and I was a bit unsteady that day, so I accidentally completely removed the power limit, and the diode got 8v and 5 amps across it... I am now after a M462 462nm as it is a nicer blue and nearly the same power. sorry I never got beam pics up.
and those (the 505 or lower) are coming from sources other than DTR? I would rather buy from DTR though. Although I have noticed there are indeed many of these diodes on Ebay now.
if those 505s can drive that high (even 50mW is enough for me) then I think I'll get one. although that means I will have to go build a new current limiting source. (my old one was meant for working at 1+amps).
you are right, I suppose 589 is really orange, but until I see some 577 in real life, that LPS 589 is how I view a quality yellow. I am trying to find some 580nm LEDs.
So then those 594nm "yellow" neon lasers are really amber.
Sorry for derailing this thread.
As for these diodes, I noticed...
But 590 looks yellow, I mean low pressure sodium is about a yellow as you can get. I suppose 577 would be a brighter yellow though. I feel all the way out to 600 is still on the yellow side. are there any up an coming diodes in that area?
I really like the idea of a ~480nm laser, that sky blue color is otherwise only obtainable by argon right?
likely a stupid question is there any work being done on ~590nm diodes? because I really want a yellow laser that I can actually afford and is stable.
Hmm, well thank you for all the replies. I used to have a 16X or 24X red one that worked great until it got popped by a careless current knob turn. I'll have a chance to get another one like it hopefully at the upcoming earth day recycling fair in my area.
what stinks is that it is very well...
Yeah, I figured when I ordered a while ago it that multimode would be tolerable. clearly for this one it is not. well if nothing else it looks neat...
Thank you for all the help!
Bummer, so what should I do?... because the beam really is not even that powerful (in terms of burning and focus) in its current state. A multi element takes a pretty hefty performance hit though.
Thank you for the support so far though.
I must clarify, this tight line is not like that of the dye shape getting "pushed into a circle" as you bring the lens into focus, but a very thin line that as I mentioned was not in the original plane of the dye emission. I have never seen a 90 degree flip like that. (or more like it squashed...
Hello again,
I recently got a new G2 lens to replace the one in my oclaro diode setup. (it got dropped and stepped on....) the odd thing is, now the beam is at best a square, no dot option at all. If you really try to get it tight, it pulls out into a line that is perpendicular to that of the...
