I like my three-element lens more than my G-2 lens

I just finished a 2W 445 build, and I love it. But my G-2 lens is putting the beam out crooked and there's a TON of spill out to the sides, and even when focused the focal point is more of a line. My three element (maybe single element) lens from a few years ago produces a much nicer...

    Another 2W build thread

I tried building a 1W 445 laser a few years ago, but I didn't really have the tools or knowledge to do a good job on it. However, after a year of college I am a whole new person :) (a joke). Anyway, I'm working on a 2W build out of an old, very expensive, flashlight. I'm using a FourSevens...

I'm going all out on this build. Want some opinions please!

I'm building a pretty standard 2W 445nm handheld laser. I know it doesn't sound too exciting, but I am really trying to make it look good. I'm building it into a FourSevens MMU host which I paid $120 for a year ago. Eudaimonium is machining a heatsink for me, and assuming it fits as planned I...

    Noob question about drivers

I have an X-Drive 1.8amp driver that I planned on using with a 2 cell blue 2w blue laser. But I believe that the driver only cares about current, not so much voltage. So if I use this same 1.8amp driver with a single cell can I use it for a 1W red laser? Looking at DTR's pictures it looks...

    BatteryPowerForum potential startup

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about starting up a "BatteryPowerForum.com" but I would like to see who would be interested. I know there are a lot of good places online for battery information, but I think that batteries are so broad that a forum just for them would be useful. Let me know if...

How can I waterproof a laser?

I would like to start selling lasers for some college income. Building them is not to challenging since all of the parts needed (host, driver, diode, heatsink, etc.) can be found pre-manufactured. Before I start "mass producing" lasers I would like to know if there is any way that an...

    Where to get heatsink machined?

I am working on my first good quality build. I am planning on making a 2W 445nm build in a large 18650 host. This is the host I am using: TrustFire XML C8-T6 5-Mode CREE LED 1000 Lumen Flashlight. I plan on CADing the heatsink with Inventor. I don't have access to a CNC lathe (or hand...

    Threading Aixiz module into host

I am working on an ultra compact build of mine. I am using a 445nm diode using abour 1.5amps from an Litium-Magnesium 14500 battery. Since the build is so small I would like to thread the Aixiz heatsink into my the heatsink I made for my host instead of press fitting it as I've done in the...

Will adding a capacitor help my problem?

I am trying to drive a 1w diode with a 14500 battery, but the voltage cannot keep up and when it drops below 3v the driver shuts off. Here is an image of the voltage over time on an ocillascope. If I add a cap to this will the laser stay on for longer, or is it just a matter of the battery not...

    Looking for 1S2P AA holder.

Does anyone sell 1S2P AA holders. I am looking for something like this: 1 x 1S2P 3.7V 18650 Holder Case Battery w/ Li-ion PCM Protection Circuit Module | eBay but for AA and not $10. Thanks.

Could I use an XM-L or XP-G flashlight driver with a 445nm diode?

Could I use an XM-L or XP-G flashlight driver with a 445nm diode? I have a 1w 445 diode, could I use a flashlight driver, or do I need to use a driver made specifically for 445nm lasers? The voltage of the LED's driver is the same, I would make sure to get one with the proper current, as well.

    Replacing XP-G with XM-L?

I just posted this over at CPF, but the I think the users here are much more of the modding sort then they are. Anyway, I would like to replace an XP-G emitter in a little light with an XM-L emitter. I just purchased a very cheep flashlight, about the cheapest you can find, $5. It is a small...

13650 with 1W laser... Why not to do it.

I made my first laser build with a small flashlight that originally used 3AAA batteries. The pack that held the batteries was terrible, and my laser was putting out less than 500mW. I ripped out the pack and installed a 13650 pack in the handle, thinking that could handle the power. After...

Can I sell a 1W 445nm lasers on Craigs List?

I've heard rumors about laws regarding lasers such as "you can't sell a laser more than 5mW" and things like that. But I don't think that's true.... Anyway, I would like to sell some lasers I've made on Craigslist. Can I do that? What should I watch out for? Thank you. P.S. Sorry for the...

Using NiMh batteries for 1W+ lasers?

Would it be ok to drive a 1W+ laser off of 3x NiMh cells. Each cell (that I'm using) has about 50 mili-ohm impedance. So, in series there would be a whopping 150mOhm of impedance. Would it be OK to still use that to drive a laser, or should I just stick with a lithium cell? Thanks!

    Tenergy or UltraFire batteries?

I am building my first laser host for a 445nm I bought off of eBay about a year ago (well, I bought the parts and put them together). I haven't played with it too much since it is a pain to carry around and I am powering it with a large LiPo battery. I have finally decided it's time to make a...

    Battery Reviews on my site

Recently I have started writing battery reviews on my website and testing how long a given battery lasts compared to what it is advertised as. As of now I only have two different RCR123a that I have tested and reviewed, but I thought I would share the reviews here because they are pretty...

    1W 445nm Goggles?

Hi, I'm new here. I just ordered some parts on Ebay to make my first laser. It is a 1W 445nm laser, I am planning to put this on a little RC helicopter that I have. I need a pair of glasses though that will be able to block the beam. I am a super poor teenager, so whatever is cheapest I...
