No it's actually a 3/4in "tall" cylinder with the hole down the middle.

Would it be okay to test a S06J at 430mA in a heatsink without thermal compound? The laser wouldn't be on for more than 30 seconds. The heatsink is a 1 inch diameter aluminum disk with a 11.9mm hole drilled in it for the module. The module is a Aixiz with a copper diode mount.

Oh wow, I didn't even know about those. It looks like Osram also has a 515nm (At least that's what the name suggests) diode for a reasonable price.

How does a dummy load represent a laser diode? To my knowledge all I need to make a dummy load is a bunch of rectifier diodes in series with a 1 ohm resister. What does this do to simulate a laser?

I remember reading about a Aixiz brick and mortar store in Houston. I can't find the post anywhere though, and I've tried googling for it to no avail. Does anyone have any information on it or did it never exist?

I read the sticky about soldering diodes, but I'm still worried about it. I have one of these kits. Talas - Extra Hand Clamps Can I use that as a soldering heatsink? What temperature will fry the diode? I have a soldering iron that lets me set a temperature, up to 300*c.

If you are just a hobbyist who wants to safely (get good goggles) marvel at the beautiful beam, burn stuff, etc. Than the o-like should be fine.

I have it and it's great for burning. It is lacking beam wise though, as it is red. It's as bright of a beam as my 30mW green. I can not push enough how important a good pair of goggles is when you go upwards of 100mW. Make sure to factor a pair into your budget.

Oh okay I found the brand name. They are by "Orbtronic" I don't see any OD/L numbers and all it says on the rim is 532mm 190-540mm. I did try focusing my 200mW laser with it and it made the "dot" appear as small as a orange 1mm diameter dot. About the size as a full stop on this web page. I...
