    Sale thread/ Hosts/Heat Sinks/Focus adapters/lasers

Damn Rich you have some nice hosts. I really like the design of the 2x18650 and the choice of powder coating. Might order 3 in RGB for a trio of single mode pointers :) What sized module should I order from DTR to suit these modules.

Crazy and idiot idea : Replace co2 with HeNe to build a POWERFUL hene laser?

You won't get anywhere near 10W out of a 80W CO2 tube. It may produce 80W when filled with CO2 mix, but when filled with HeNe mix you'll get milliwatts, mabye 10's at most. This is assuming the fill is the correct mix, correct pressure, mirrors aligned perfectly, correct mirrors of course...

    Argon question

Its not uncommon for an argon that has sat for a while to "tick tick tick" for a few to several 10's of minutes, like everyone has said. I have a just under half watt ILT multiline that when I first got it sat and ticked for quite some time. Having had experience with other argons, I let it...

Various ads removed for LPF Supporting Members.

I will donate some next pay - first need to pay off my MC, after buying my new toy (80D with sigma 18-35 f1.8) Should be great for beam pics :) Do I need to go on a subscription, or can I just donate a fixed amount every so often?

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Its a good practice as heated gas expands, so it kinda helps in starting - when I got my ILT's in I let the cathode heat the gas for 1/2 hour before I turned on the arc. Like you said probably not nessecary, but does help with a tube that could be a bit low pressure - heating the gas makes the...

    dark layout - setup in-progress

Much better - no need for the sunnies anymore. I would probably brighten up that thread title etc blue though, thats a touch hard to read. Head closer to 488nm Argon blue :)

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Well she now looks the busniess - this Single line ILT was in pretty sad shape when I got it, had stickers all over it (which tore off paint when I removed them), but now has a new set of fans and so long as I don't move the umbilical, runs nicely. Next thing to address is that dodgy umbilical...

I was in there - in fact when I looked I saw a post about me asking about the laserchat. Definatly >1 year and over 1000 posts on the old forum :)

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Heheh yes they make a great heater in the loungeroom when its winter - I have recently often set mine up and run it on the workbench to warm the place up and flatmate comes home and goes "ohhh the house is nice and warm - have you been running your big laser" (he doesn't know as far as argons...

Yes I went back through the thread and saw his other note about it.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

I always thought an air cooled like an ILT or ALC 60X need it or the tubes become hard to star as they go high pressure. edit: ultimatekaiser, your a gold mine of information. I'll still be running mine today, if only to keep the eletrolytics happy, so a half hour should be plenty for that...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

just run em for a few hours when you get home. 6-7 amps for air cooled units is fine. As long as they're run once every 3 to 6 months, tubes that aren't high milage will light off first tick :)

    Remember to exercise those argons!

I just changed out the fans on one of my ILT's (the single line) and it hasn't been run in over 3 months, so I'll couple it to a power supply tomorrow while my housemate is away and run her for a while. That lexel 85 looks SWEET DJZ - what does she pull from the wall? 2.5 watts - insane - my...

ILT Laser Gimbals - In need to replace in ILT-5425

I am still around and unfortunately I don't have any spare gimbals as both my ILT's and their PSU's work. I just haven't had time recently to play with lasers recently (even tho my pointer is sitting right in front of me, with the battery removed). I have the transformer for my controller, but...

Argon laser - Is this worth of buying?!?! Help

Add another turn. The load will pull the voltage down. The switchers in the ILT's still use a cathode transformer and they do exactly the same thing - 3.2v on heating, and once the laser strikes, the voltage drops to 2.8V. Undervolting a filament is bad, it makes the tungsten buttery and can...

    Do you like fireworks

I've seen this happen - it usually ends up resulting in spot fires and more than your usual share of set off car alarms. It can also lead to very serious injury - the bigger shells have quite a bomb inside!
