USAF to use "ray guns" for..... weed control.

Full story: Air Force Wants Ray Guns for ‘Weed Prevention’ | Danger Room | Wired.com I find this weed terminating gun to be suspiciously very similar to this "dazzling" ray gun: Air Force develops

    Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

Hey, thinks everyone for your feedback and your ideas. Magmabeam, there is no duty cycle on the Arctic laser (it measures a steady 730mW for ten minutes). The CNI laser should be turned off after a few minutes (I noticed it heats and its power drops) and cool down for about 10 minutes.

    Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

I really wanted to, but Roomba can't clean balloons, they get stuck in its brushes, which is why I removed them before doing this. Give me some time and I'll top even that, you just wait and see...

    Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

The robot is automatic, no remote control, although you have these small boxes called "virtual walls" if you want to block it. It is supposed to detect walls and not bump into them that strongly, I suspect the laser messed up the robot light sensors in some way.

    Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

Green CNI >500mW (measured between 550 to 600). Blue Arctic < 1W (measured 730mW) The two violet lasers are unfocused. I think black balloons would pop much better, but even those I'm not sure would pop if the beam passes them fast (when the robot turns). These lasers needs a steady fracture...

Thanks, it's actually the first time I edit a video before posting it to YouTube.

    Laser + Roomba vs. Balloons

Greetings! I present to you my latest experiment - Roomba robot attached with 4 lasers to create an automatic balloon terminator. Lasers attached: Green CNI PGL-C >500mW Blue WL Arctic 1W Two Violet IgorT lasers about 200mW each (they were not focused, added for just for good looks). I have...

    Laser in the Zoo

Funny, I didn't notice it back in the zoo... I guess it's some sort of a tag the zoo keepers use. True, kittens always seem to enjoy chasing a laser. Many of them lose interest as they grow, but not all. I have a cat 11 years old still enjoys chasing lasers.

    Laser in the Zoo

I'm always very careful. The dome may look like shiny glass in the photo, but it's actually a murky plastic dome with barely any reflection. And the laser is not powerful enough to do any harm in a split second exposure. I appreciate your comment though, I wouldn't want to encourage anyone else...

    Laser in the Zoo

Hey, I took my one year old daughter to the zoo today, and used the opportunity to satisfy my curiosity about which animals would react to a laser and how. Grabbed one of my greenies, same one that drives my cats crazy. The results were mostly disappointing, almost all animals didn't react -...

6 months later, got my Arctic

I guess I'm lucky - it only took 4 months for me to get my Arctic. I'm also quite impressed with it, seems like a quality build, good beam quality and solid body and buttons. I agree about the documentation - they really made an effort there and it shows. Though mine isn't 1W, it's a steady...

    Wicked Lasers Arctic vs. Balloons

Hey Laser Buddies, I've uploaded two new videos, this time Wicked Lasers Arctic vs. Balloons. The laser is G2 model (with secure smart switch), measuring 730mW on my LaserBee I Deluxe LPM. The videos demonstrate very well that popping (or burning) capability is not just a function of power, but...

Theoretical Maximum Power for Portable Laser

I meant a continous handheld laser powered by one or two AA sized batteries. But it turned out to be an interesting discussion, I'm glad.

Death of a "Waterproof" red DX 200mW laser

Probably won't work, I think they're attracted to blood smell or taste.

Death of a "Waterproof" red DX 200mW laser

Hey, I went diving few weeks ago, and took for the first time a "200mW" (it's actually around 170mW) DX laser, which is supposed to be waterproof down to 10 meters deep. (This is its page: DealExtreme: $59.31 HLP18130 Focusable 200mW Red Laser Pointer (2*123A Included)) I knew there's a good...

Theoretical Maximum Power for Portable Laser

Portable 20W? But if you need a really good heatsink it means there's much heat generated that needs to be dispersed, no? Isn't that the opposite of efficient?

Theoretical Maximum Power for Portable Laser

Hey All, Now that 1W portable lasers are becoming available, it made me wonder how - much higher can it get? I mean the absolute maximum theoretical limit, assuming 100% efficiency in converting battery electricity to light. Taking for example a portable laser that runs on a 3.7V 2500mAh...
