Use the diode test function on your DMM to find the anode and cathode.

Just don't try that with a 10,6um IR laser... A 16W Synrad, even unfocused, instantly sets fire to anything organic, paint, paper etc. from 3m/10 feet!

I did it at a festival last summer, we projected on a big concrete building (30x40 meters maybe?) using a 12000 lumen projector, a DV camera and this computer (Dell 2ghz laptop). The pointers used were 30mW DX. It is a very easy program to control once you get everything set up!

Re: GB ROUND 2 OPEN for 10W RF EXCITED CO2 LASERS! Heuur: I have another model of Synrad RF-excited laser (48-1) that outputs 16W and draws about 7A at 30V. Is that just a more efficient design or is yours out of tune (retunable?) or has been used and lost some of its power?

Using them in lasershows isn't really CW use since they are blanked/modulated at several kilohertz rate. I think it may be a cooling issue as someone pointed out, attach it to a heatisnk or metal baseplate and it should be fine.
