New laser stimulated state of matter

Transparent aluminium is ‘new state of matter’ - University of Oxford Yup, that's right folks transparent aluminum. Ironically I was discussing the same matter just yesterday, only I was referencing one of the star trek movies. Now it looks like physicist have created a material Scotty would be...

    This is an honest question

Ok guys I know at least one of you has tried it, fess up. And remember this is an honest question so don’t laugh. How many of you, who have a strong enough laser, have ever tried to cook food with it and what does it taste like. I have a bet that it tastes pretty bland, who can correct me if I...

    Laser media

If this hasn’t been done already I would like to compile a list of major media with lasers being either the central theme or a key element. So anything you guys can think of Movies, T.V. (shudder), books, video games and/or radio (is that possible?). List it here Movies: "Real Genius"...

    Lasing cavities

I wanted to know how many of you have tried modify lasing cavities and what your results were. As far as I can tell just using your standard cylinder with mirrors on the flat ends is inefficient. How would adding more reflective surfaces or making different shapes(of the cavity) can modify the beam.

    Good news!

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!!!! My DVD player broke down, now i can make a laser........err any ideas? I would like something powerful and mobile. But I'll take the power over portability (for now at least). I would like to use it primarily for burning(2 dollars for matches is just unacceptable). I...

    retro-reflection

I was wondering if any of you had information on how lasers react to retro-reflection. Do the beaded surfaces cut down temperature on the target area, and at what ratio. I cant seem to find( or I am too lazy to really look for) any research in the area and I am curious.

    One way Mirrors

This is my first post. I have always been fascinated by lasers and other light modification devices. I was wondering if a pair of goggles made from a one way mirror will provide suitable protection from a laser beam.
