Read carefully: The reason is: The larger topload stores more energy before breaking out. Its a capacitor! And when you put a breakout point on it has a place to leak out before the capacitor can charge further and develop larger singular arcs I had this problem with my V1 4.25" secondary...

Usa You need a bigger topload to store the energy longer then it will consolidate the breakout To less more impressive arcs You need 1kw or more to have ceiling hits of a meter or more Mine is 2 mots 2.8kw

A piece of advice Don't use the house ground for an RF ground! Get a ground rod And as big a conductor as you can to connect The bottom of the secondary to it and as short as possible I blew out my vonage unit with mine. Even with that the TVs were unwatchable

No on the xformer, it is GFI protected I have been a busy beaver on my 6.6" secondary

If your form fits in the lathe its perfect! I do mine with a big drill on a variac and comfortable speed is 60 rpm
