    Reparing Survival Laser Driver

Bobo; I've repaired drivers many times. You need a larger iron (I use a 60 watt). Heat up both sides and pry the driver up from the larger hole in the driver. LarryDFW

Where to buy batteries and what of which company?

Yuval; Look for Sanyo 14500 cells. Fasttech is one overseas vendor that has them. If you need #18650 cells, I have Panasonic 3400mah cells, and can ship with a device attached to Israel. LarryDFW

    What battery can I use?

Yuva; The CR2 battery cell size is 15270 . That means 15mm by 27mm long. The closest cell for two of them would be a #14500 lithium ion cell. It would be 14mm by 50mm long. Look for a Sanyo cell for best performance. LarryDFW

How healthy are your batteries? (How to measure internal resistance)

I test the resistance of 18650 cells with a #16 gauge wire to the resistor, and check the voltage directly at the cell terminals, before and after applying the load. LarryDFW

Panasonic 3400mah 18650 Cell Now Available!

Thanks; Roger. The positive pole button tops insure connectivity between multiple cells. LarryDFW

How healthy are your batteries? (How to measure internal resistance)

Cube777; The resistance of quality new 18650 cells, should be much lower than what you read. Make sure the wire leads are heavy enough to carry the current, without adding to the resistance readings. LarryDFW

    Couple of electronics questions

Seidweise; Just find a 12 VDC plug in supply. They are fairly common. I have several if you need one. LarryDFW

    Techhood 400mW RGB Unit.

I have these available for $2 each (prepaid in con US for 2 or more), or with two Panasonic 3400mah cells for portable use. These should allow for several hours of operation. LarryDFW

New Panasonic 18650 High Discharge Cell

BShanahan; A little more info on these cells: Internal impedance is 22 Milliohms. (protection circuits will add ~50-60 milliohms) Eighteen amp pulse discharge capability. Since these are designed for heavy current capability, they have eliminated the PTC current limiting device. This...

power supply for a laser pointer

ozgur84; If you just want a wall power supply for the pointer, just find a ~3 VDC switching supply and wire it thru your switch. I have a couple, if you need one. LarryDFW

New Panasonic 18650 High Discharge Cell

IMO, yes, they are better. More capacity, and up to ten amps current capability. LarryDFW

New Panasonic 18650 High Discharge Cell

    Panasonic has released a new NCR18650PD 18650 3.7V 2900mAh Li-ion Rechargeable Battery. It is capable of 10A discharge @ 20' C. I think this cell will make the IMR 2000mah cells obsolete. It has a huge capacity . . . , for a high-discharge cell. LarryDFW

how to drive a low/high power switchable 445nm?

lhenderson; This is the driver I would use: 1.5 Amp Driver Full Output + 35% Output LarryDFW

    Current Limiting with Resistor only...?

I would have to disagree. If your diode is heaksinked well, then the resistor has some advantages. One, it is more reliable. Two, the resistor will have less voltage drop, as the battery voltage declines. I am not aware of any capacitive "build up" on the cells I use. Here is a thread on...

Domestic Korean batteries (Samsung 26/28F) 18650

I knew you could find some of those cells. I have used them in the past, and they were good performers. Now, I am spoiled by the 3400 mah Pannys. Larry
