If You've Actually Received Your Spyder III Arctic - Post Here

I am a very sad panda... What's the E3 output? Any idea? ******* Oh by the way, Trevor (TWHITE828) - I noticed that you have a 445nm lab project on hold. Here's a link to my latest thrown-together 445nm lab laser! Dorky Overkill Heatsink for 445nm I call it the Blue Fun Box.

    Dorky Overkill Heatsink for 445nm

Got tired of the Overkill flopping around, taking up one my lab power supplies. Here it is, my tricky Blue Fun Box! 0-1980ma. Fun Box cruising along at 1100ma. Blue Fun Box is GO! Sparkles! :-)

weird "square" over beam of arctic

Daguin is correct, it's the die-mounting structure of the 445nm diode. My 445nm lab laser does the same thing with no lens cover involved. It's very easy to see the die structure with the power dialed down below its lasing point (>200ma).

If You've Actually Received Your Spyder III Arctic - Post Here

Why not just discount anyone who doesn't own multiple gas lasers -- after all, anyone else must be a n00b and doesn't "really" know what they should like! It's a laser pointer forum after all. Nobody here's gonna drop the bucks to buy a Coherent V18. If you discount anyone on LPF that just has...

If You've Actually Received Your Spyder III Arctic - Post Here

You should be able to do that pretty easily, since most people have their lasers listed in their sig field.

If You've Actually Received Your Spyder III Arctic - Post Here

I got mine in just under two months. I would be pretty irritated if it went above 3 months. I understand that Wicked has had growing pains, but I would have put a real production queue in place and had the lead time on the orders page. I like my Arctic - a lot, but Wicked, as a company, needs...

    Anyone bought from Tmart?

I read a some posts on another forum that they ordered flashlights and stuff that shipped out of Brooklyn NY. That gave me some hope that they would ship pointers out of NY and avoid being f'ed with in customs. I did an order of a (supposedly) 1W green and a couple of other things. My heart...

    Inexpensive ESD (static) protection.

Here's the deal. The Lasorb has a very narrow market window. It's only useful for people throwing together their own designs, people opening up other designs and sticking their fingers into them, or people who build a system and decide to NOT enclose and shield their electronics. If Lasorbs...

    Inexpensive ESD (static) protection.

I keep all my static in a box too! :yh:

    Inexpensive ESD (static) protection.

I agree! How many designs leave the LD leads exposed to ESD anyway? If you are careful, things get buttoned-up quickly and then the metal boxes/hosts do the shielding.

    Inexpensive ESD (static) protection.

$2 @10000 units. Sure. I can see recouping your costs, but $8 is high for your average $15 diodes. Then there's the size issue. At least you have a price list and payment page now. Making them easier to price and buy is helpful. I haven't gone around and zapped my protected diodes with a...

Care and feeding of your Arctic beast

I'll second that! I should have posted this earlier. I used a heat gun to break down the epoxy that was in the threads. Worked great! I haven't found a suitable close focus lens that will take it's place, but it's nice to have the training ring to play with!

    Ebay $9 blu-ray pens: GREAT!

Here's a pic - On this one, the diode holder is threaded into the barrel and the whole back side has been crimped slightly, making it really difficult to unscrew.

    The crimped, front-focused brass module?

If You've Actually Received Your Spyder III Arctic - Post Here

Look at the "Arctic Beast" thread - it tells how to adjust the focus on them. 445nm lasers focused at infinity have a pretty wide beam up close. Some folks, myself included, have a "close up" lens that's great for focusing the beam to a pin point at close range. Burns stuff super fast.

I think that the "bar" that is seen near the main beam (which is not round with normal lenses) is an image of the edge of the surface that the laser die is mounted to. I have a "lab" version of the 445nm and it's clearly visible at low power. The bar also moves with the diode and not the lens...

    Ebay $9 blu-ray pens: GREAT!

I added this to the $9 ebay BluRay thread because a number of folks on this thread bought the violet/green combo deal from this seller. This unit is that green pen. And yes, all the parts shown are aluminum. The same seller has green modules for sale and they are brass. However those modules...

    Disected Ebay (itemquickship) "5mW" Green

Re: Macro - Thanks! I have much higher-end cameras, but my fave macro camera is an old Nikon 990. One stock, and the other converted to NIR. Re: 5mW - No power meter, but it's way over powered. The pump diode is running at ~200ma. The 405's from this vendor are supurb, also over powered...

    Disected Ebay (itemquickship) "5mW" Green

I finally got around to dissecting the "5mW" green pen that is often sold in a 405nm/Green combo on Ebay. First, it's a bitch to get out of the barrel. Press fit all the way. And yes, I buggered the end of the module trying to get it out of the barrel. Here's the whole module, unscrewed. I...

Ok, so I finally got around to dissecting their green pen. First, it's a bitch to get out of the barrel. Press fit all the way. And yes, I buggered the end of the module trying to get it out of the barrel. Here's the whole module, unscrewed. I am sure that there was a spring between the...
