i doubt that that thing uses regular 5 mw diodes from a laser pointer. its probably more power, and if that is the case, it will definitely cost more than a few dollars a diode.

lol what's funny is how we all talk about kipkay like he's a criminal for advertising an unregulated circuit for a diode, but he's the reason why a lot of us got into lasers in the first place!

the inside of the top half of my aixiz module got all burred and dented in the process of trying to get the previous diode out of there, and now my new diode isn't fitting! what should i do! i don't want to force it in, and neither do i want to make the hole in the module so big that the diode...

do LED's give off coherent light like laser diodes do? what is the average output of a regular radioshack-type LED? also, can light from an LED be focused into a laser?

first, i saw kipkay's instructable on the minmag hack, and i was fascinated by it. i looked how to make lasers on youtube and found styropyro's vid on making a simple diode driver just from a pot. i kept asking him questions until he directed me here, so thanks styropyro!

well you're right, but in this case i already know it will work because i've used this same driver to drive a diode before, but the diode burnt out from a discharge of the cap after being briefly disconnected. ill look into a multimeter. do u know if they have them at radioshack?

k thanks, i just picked up a green led from radioshack and it does seem to have similar qualities voltage wise as the LD. i also got a project box to put it all in. I can't wait till the LD comes!
