I believe 520nm is less visible than 532nm, but not much less. One of the advantages of 520 is that they are direct diode not a DPSS like 532, this means that 520 will have a much more stable power output and be able to operate in colder temperatures. Also a 520 will not put out any IR, leaky IR...

Really nice DIY host, casting might get a better fit than one turned on a lathe although you might have a little trouble getting the hole for the module straight. A casting of the whole head you would also have more thermal mass than a regular mag heat sink. If you got some scrap copper around...

I use my greenie way more than my 1W blue, its more visible, has a way better beam and goes further. Problem with 532 greens is that they may struggle to get any output when cold, mine does nothing when its 15 degrees Celsius or lower, you could just keep it in your pocket in cold weather, or...

Its a custom m140 build @1.1a, just thought it was strange because my camera makes it look light blue. As for my 532, can see the dot clearly out to massive distance. Anyway thanks for the replies :beer:

This is pretty cool, only ever played around with the lower frequencies with water and stuff. Using the higher freqs to make those patterns is something I've never seen before. Really cool!

Thanks for chiming on on 473 since not may people have those :cool:. 405 never appealed to me much, but they have some pretty awesome capabilities to make up for the lack of visibility.

Strangely I cannot focus on the dot of a 445, which people say is a trait of 405, 445 looks mega purple too me and the dot is much dimmer than my probably 100mW greenie. Also, I cannot focus on THIS and have to highlight it to read it. Is this abnormal? If you are going to say eye damage its...

I find my "200mW" green (which is brighter than my 1W 445) to be too much indoors, even 10 meters away its excruciating to look at. That said I do think I'm a bit hypersensitive to light.
