I would have to dig out my physics textbook, but I do not see any reason why all wavelengths should not be considered radiant sources.

The internal resistance of the battery may cause a substantial voltage drop at higher currents. Can you measure the voltage across the battery while the laser is turned on? I would be interested in the current measurement too. If you can, place an ammeter in series with the diode. I'm glad...
