I actually used a Dremel to drill the holes, although its practically a drill since I used a drill bit. I got the box from a "Ferrero Rocher" box of chocolates. It is actually pretty sturdy and works very well. Thanks again for the kind words :)

I have seen that module before. I ordered some red laser modules online and it looked identical, driver board and all. It ended up having a normal closed-can red laser diode, there was no square beam.

Yep, I agree with wannaburnstuff. If you've got the money and want the laser to work epically, just get a real powerful one. You won't be let down ;)

This all seems unusual for these modules. Double-check your power supply, I am a bit suspicious of it. Make sure you measure the voltage/current draw when the laser is connected and on which gives it a load. I had a power supply that had the voltage increase as the load increased. blew a few...

I just removed the metal focus ring, I was having focusing issues with my laser too.

The 4x, 8x ect. means the speed which it can burn data to discs. The higher the number, the stronger the laser diode. Please use the search function next time ;)

They may just not sell them in certain countries that have laser restrictions. For example, Australia has a <=1mW restriction. The US is <=5mW, although there may be other countries with a restriction of below 5mW.
