What is one thing you did with your laser you regret?

Keeping a laser in my pocket not realizing it was accidentally turned on. I was lucky it was just a 70mW green. When I got it out it was very toasty to the point that it was a bit uncomfortable to hold. I am amazed that it still alive today and it lases just as bright as when I got it. This...

    Soldering Iron wanted!

What tip width(chisel) would you recommend for general use on soldering some smd parts, through hole and also some wires up to say like, 16AWG?

Which one would you hail too?

Pigment and light do not have the same characteristics. So, add the pink to the poll so I can vote. :)

Which one would you hail too?

White light is a mix of RGB. If you google pink light, you will find out that it doesn't exist. It's more like "minus green" Edit: I don't think combining red and white light will result in pink.

Which one would you hail too?

I'm seeing this as a fantasy thread. So where's the pink? I'd take it anytime of the day even if it's just 1mW. :p

    X-drive v6 questions

Yes, always discharge the output of any driver or power supply before connecting a LD to prevent spikes And yes, standard color code is red=positive and black=negative

    Soldering Iron wanted!

Almost double the price but I'll take your advice since you're the engineer ;) I have to save up for the FX-888D.

    Soldering Iron wanted!

It should suit my needs. I rarely do precision smd work anyway.

    Soldering Iron wanted!

I thought I'd bump this rather than making a new thread. I'm getting tired of using my cheapo 30W iron. It can't keep up with big joints and I get terrible results. My 40W gets insanely hot that the moment I put some solder on the tip, the flux just get burnt and charred immediately. I'm...

Re: 700mW+ 405nm FS!!! With 3-element!!! 950mW w/ G-2 That's a lot of 405 power there! It won't care what you point it at because it will burn the crap out of it. I really like the last pic

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

You can just use those cheap thermal adhesive from eBay or you can also use something like the Arctic Silver thermal epoxy.

    The Audio Thread

I'm no audiophile and I only have entry level headphones but I can tell a slight difference. There is more detail in FLAC but for everyday listening, the added file size keeps me from using it.

    Strange looking diode

It's an infrared diode. It's invisible. What you are looking for is the red diode. It has 3 pins in most cases.

Need advice; safely tightening C6 front bezel.

I suppose all the C6 come from China but not necessarily from the same factory. So that's where the variations come from.

    Aviators being taken advantage of?!?

Yeah a bit too expensive for the protection it offers. Laser hits on aircrafts at high altitudes shouldn't cause much damage to the eyes because of divergence. The OD level seems adequate because I think the main purpose of these glasses is to prevent flash blindness.

Need advice; safely tightening C6 front bezel.

Taking out the o-rings definately help but I have a few C6 builds that I didn't have to remove the o-rings. To prevent the sink from rotating, I tightly screw in the lens barrel w/ focus adapter to have something to hold on to.
