    New Laser!!

I have a 50mw green and as a general rule I just don't shine it inside without my goggles. You may be okay, but there is too many reflective surfaces around...so you shouldn't be shining it at any white walls. Risk isn't worth it. If you want to admire the beam, shine it outside at trees or in...

    Is O-Like a good company?

I purchased a 50 mW green laser. It outputs at 62mW. O-like is good. EDIT: Via skype I was able to contact Suzy live, and she is on about 5 hours a day. Also my package arrived in about a week once shipped. Took 3-4 days to get a tracking # though.

    Testing A140 Diode

    Yeah I've got OD 6+ at 180-540.

    Testing A140 Diode

Okay I think I'm going to just go ahead and put it in the host and all then and hope for the best.

    Testing A140 Diode

I don't really know anything. I just put it back in the baggy immediately. A friend was going to help me with the installation. I'm going to take it up to the lab I work at tomorrow, ground myself, and see if anyone up there can help me. I don't have a heatsink on hand to put it in...my friend...

    Testing A140 Diode

So my diode arrived from daguin (thanks to him btw). And for some reason my idiotic parents opened my package and handled the diode before giving it to me. I assume it's broken now from ESD. How do I test the diode?

Solid State Lasers for Defense Applications

Ranging issues continually plague these lasers - they are short ranged weapons.

Re: FS: >600mW 445nm Dorcy Okay, cool. I think I might go for this then. I'll think about it for a few hours though =P. Daguin: one last question for you. Any chance you've made any calculations to determine beam waist and divergence? I ask because I need that to throw into some software I...

Re: FS: >600mW 445nm Dorcy Well here's my deal: My first laser was a 532nm 50mw, and I've had that for a few months. I didn't use goggles because I only shoot it at night up into the sky...never up close. I work in a laser facility, so I'm used to using goggles there, and now I'm looking for...

Re: FS: >600mW 445nm Dorcy What's the duty cycle on this? Also, do you have any less powerful builds?

noob question, make you feel smart, or me stupid

Radians is an angle. .5 Mrad means that that is the angle at which the beam gets larger the farther away from the focusing lens
  14. S

noob question, make you feel smart, or me stupid

Not quite. Mrad is a unit to measure the divergence (spread) of the beam. Where the beam is smallest is called the focal point

noob question, make you feel smart, or me stupid

Okay so all beams, contrary to uneducated opinion, don't go straight. Basically after they exit the lens, they will focus down to one spot, then "spread out." The less spreading that occurs, the smaller the dot will be at long distances. This spread is called divergence, and is measures in...

milliradian. standard unit to measure divergence of a propagating beam

Anyone ever made one of those laser mics/communicators?

I was going to try and make one, but not for another month or so. I read some article about it somewhere...
