    Yeah pretty much, got rid of that stupid keyswitch and put in a pot. Now I can vary the power from just at the lasing threshold (looks to be about 20uW) to 1,500mW.

    Ruby rods can store a lot more energy than a YAG one, and so you can get longer, stronger pulses. They used to measure ruby lasers based on how many Gillette razor blades one could burn through.

    YAG != Ruby. Ruby lasers are at least 100 times more awesome than YAG ones :-)

    Radiation Safety | Teravolt.org Also, invest in a sheet of leaded glass to attach that intensifying screen to. Get a mammography intensifying screen, a nice camera and shoot at a high aperture, long exposure. If you find the right set of combinations, you might get something like this...
