How can I understand Light as a Wave?

In other words, amplitude (or the intensity of light) is related to the number of photons. Whereas the energy of each photon is related to its associated wavelength. Great Q&A, brings back a lot of memories ;).

Re: *445nm lasers* !arrays 550$ and diodes 35$! I hear you ;). Stuff like that happens all over. What I'm saying is that shaking a stick at him isn't going to help anyone at this point - he already has the $$. Dave

Re: UPDATED cheaper 445nm lasers UPDATED !FOR ALL! I'm aware of his/her interest, but things need to be worked out in PMs. Otherwise, there could be several people wanting half-arrays with no one able to agree on terms. Dave

Re: UPDATED cheaper 445nm lasers UPDATED !FOR ALL! Kiyoukan, you probably shouldn't put me down for .5 of an array since you won't be ordering them in halves. Once I've found someone to share the array with, then one of us will commit to a whole array. Dave

    *445nm lasers* !GB-Closed!

Re: UPDATED cheaper 445nm lasers UPDATED !FOR ALL! I sure would like to see your efforts bear fruit. I don't know if this could work or not, but I can afford to shell out for half of an array if somebody would be willing to pay for the other half. That person could extract half of the diodes...

    Hello from Canada

Welcome, I grew up in Ontario - Oshawa to be exact (even did some time in the General Motors salt-mines :p). Anyway, please set a good example for others and use your new laser with safety in mind. Right now we have a lot of freedom in Canada with respect to lasers, and we're all going to have...

    New WL 445nm Spyder....irresponsible?

I don't think it's crap. And, postings by Dave and Jayrob don't set the basis for what is useful and what is useless (no disrespect intended). Dave

    What does it take/cost ?

On the Aixiz website, their glass 405nm lens is listed at $15 + shipping. However, the $10 that rangedunits quoted is not the first time I've seen somebody state that price. Is there another source and/or coupon code that I'm unaware of? Never thought of using washers.... Dave

    O-Like

I've recently ordered twice from O-Like. Both times the shipping email/notice arrived more than a week after payment. Dave

    Scalped SF-AW210

Well if the AW210 packs it in prematurely I'll report back. For now it's in an Aixiz module with an AR glass lens and running fine at 180ma. Dave

    Scalped SF-AW210

If that's the case then why are some LDs produced with an open can? I should probably use the search button for an answer to that question :tsk: - anyway, replies appreciated. Dave

    Scalped SF-AW210

While removing an SF-AW210 from it's heatsink I managed to partially push in the "protective" window - enough so that it rattled when gently shaken. Anyway, I thought better to be safe rather than sorry later on, so I cut the top off the can thereby exposing the LD. It still seems to lase just...

    Soft starts and stops

Yeah, not well worded. I should have just said thanks for the advice, I'll be scraping the soft-start idea. I was just referring to the output cap of the boost driver. Without that element the LD would be subject to current spikes...I think. Supercaps, they're neat, but I haven't used any as...

    Soft starts and stops

Thanks, I think the ouput capacitor should sufficiently keep the driver from overloading the LD. Dave

    Soft starts and stops

As others have done, I'm building my own LD driver based on the LM3410. However, I'm thinking of designing the drive to provide soft starts and stops by controlling the slew of the output. My rational for this is that slow rises to full output current (say 0.2 sec for arguements sake) and slow...

    More idiots with lasers.

Why not write your local member of government and voice your concerns. They probably know very little about the vast majority of responsible laser owners. Dave
