New Show Software, "Get Laser Show" By Riya and Illumination Supply

As I said over on PL I've wanted to get my PJ out again and have some fun with it but I need a better DAC than the one I bought off of PL. Any word when this will be available?

    Tiny HeNe tubes

That's pretty much standard on small JDSUs it seems. I have no idea why they chose .5W but both my tubes rated at 10 and 40mw says .5W on their warning labels.

What Would Your Dream Laser Be?

LOL I know. Just busting your chops a bit. :na: If I knew the wavelength for lemon yellow that's what I'd have put instead.

What Would Your Dream Laser Be?

Your "rules" suck. :P Since I can't say Argon-Krypron white light I'd have to say off the top of my head 488nm TEM00 up to 2W (multiple powers like some 445s have would be ideal) Either something similar to JL's PL-E Pro host or something totally custom.

    Is a white laser possible?

The two most common ways to get a white laser are Argon-Krypton gas lasers (argon provides the blues and greens while the krypton provides the reds and yellows) or individual red, blue, and green wavelengths combined in the right proportions to give white. The latter is how laser projectors do...

    Vacuum Tube (Thermionic Valve) Fun!

I heard about something while watching a blog video from Chris Boden of the geek group the other day that I had no idea existed. Vacuum Tube Tesla Coils. Now I want one!

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: [Renewed feeler]Starting gas for a pretty good price. I meant to ask this last time I saw this thread bumped but how much plasma do these tubes show? I have one small bare tube red but there's only maybe an inch of actual bare tube.

    Some new lasers! :D

Those little novettes are cool. I almost bought one a few weeks ago until I found an 1145P head for $100 and snatched it up. I can remember back in 8th grade our science teacher setting up a similar HeNe and modulating the beam with a radio (how he did escapes me now), shooting it down the hall...

How To: Check For Planes Before Beaming

Ha. No. They're not going to reroute commercial or even general aviation) aircraft so someone can point a laser skywards. To be able to do so legally requires a variance from the FAA which is not an easy task. I've seen the form and it's quite lengthy. IIRC the cost isn't cheap either. If you...

Goldenstar laser 1.5W 532nm Lab Laser

Alright 532nm usually gets a :tired: from me but damn that is one helluva laser. If there's a round two later in the year I may seriously have to consider getting one.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Mine are sadly in storage for awhile while my work room/office gets a much needed shoveling out. Besides it's been way too hot here to run two of those suckers in the house. Hmm maybe I should do a "Lasers in the Night II" this summer....

    Jet lasers any good?

I can't speak for that laser in particular but Jet Lasers (JL) is a *very good* company to work with. I have their PL-E Pro 473nm and couldn't be happier with it. I'm sure Gray from JL or Hakzaw1 who acts as their US based rep can answer any questions you may have.

    Missing My Wonder....

It's inevitable. The first time you see a 1W 445 you can't help thinking "holy crap!" but eventually the newness wears off. It still happens on occasion like last week when I got a JDSU 1145P HeNe. There's something about a high powered (relatively speaking) HeNe that's amazing to me at least. I...

Anonymous Poll: Do You Wear Safety Glasses Inside?

Glad this got bumped since I missed it before. Like most people here for me it depends on the laser(s), their power, location, and what I'm doing. Examples when I would wear glasses: - Burning anything. - When photographing, or working close to the beam like in most of the photos in this...

589nm vs. 594nm Yellow Wavelength Comparison

I would agree that's damned near identical. I've never personally seen a 593.5 DPSS laser but it can't be much of a color difference than a 594.1 HeNe.

Cutting glass into tiny pieces to fit into lens barrel.

Depending on how many you need it might be worth paying a local glass house a few bucks to do it for you.

589nm vs. 594nm Yellow Wavelength Comparison

For only 5nm between the common yellow wavelengths there's a pretty decent difference. 2013-10-04_09-58-43pm by ltkernelpanic, on Flickr 589 is definitely a golden color and 594 is more of an amber color. The colors are pretty close in person to that pic. 594 looks more yellow by itself but...

    Laser Case

I've found that cheap aluminum sided padded "gun cases" work pretty well for my lasers. The case I got off fleabay for my pointers works quite well for small laser but there's not a chance in hell I'd actually use it as a gun case. I bought another larger, better quality one to keep my HeNe...

    rare earth magnet...

This is how big magnets are shipped. The company he bought it from uses bigger boxes now but with the same technique. 1zO9nWgI_LY

Bought my first gas laser! :D

Welcome to the gassy side! Those are nifty little lasers. I have a PSU for the latest addition to my HeNe collection that's supposed to be delivered today so I know the anticipation you're going through. ;)
