    Red Green Orange Yellow

i say this in the kindest possible way but I hate you :P Seriously though amazing collection. I'm still after the elusive 612nm to complete my HeNe rainbow. Someday I'll get around to shooting an updated pic of my RGY HeNe tubes since I finally have a high powered red tube.

How do you store/protect your lasers?

Depends on the laser. My big HeNe came in an original factory padded shipping box that I store it in. For smaller lasers I've found that cheap aluminum sided padded "gun cases" work pretty well for my lasers. The case I got off fleabay for my pointers works quite well but there's not a chance in...

    Argon fun

Fired up both my argons the other night for one last burn before they went back into storage for awhile and decided to snap a few pics while I had my camera out. All four shots were taken from pretty much the same spot but with different camera settings. The last one is out of focus but captured...

    First Argon ! ILT 5500A ML 30mW to 300mW :D

Wowsers. That's a pretty good deal on a nice setup.

    Tektronix scope

For anyone interested in the Rigol 1052E Amazon currently has it for less than $5 more than DX with prime shipping (or actually $15 less with free standard shipping). They also have the 1102E for 399 with both free standard or prime shipping. If he prices stay the same I'm probably going to...

    Tektronix scope

I'm not sure if it still works but there was a hack to turn the 50MHz Rigol scope into a 100MHz one since it was software limited. I've been considering getting that scope for when I build my tesla coil this winter.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Giving both mine a good workout before they go back into storage for awhile again.

Which Processor to Buy? Reality Check Needed.

If you're looking at a MBP be sure to check the refurb section on the online Apple store. About the only way to tell they're a refurb is sometimes they come in a plain brown box instead of the colored retail box otherwise they are identical to what you'd get at retail (and sometimes better)...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Yeah it's a bit too red. I was mainly just messing around with my 50/1.8 that hasn't seen much use lately. Getting the right balance is pretty tricky with bare HeNe tubes. If you get the color it's usually over exposed. If you get the exposure right the color is usually off. The pic I posted was...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Fired up my tube again last night and messed around with my camera a bit. 2014-08-27_10-45-45pm by ltkernelpanic, on Flickr

ouch. I'm not sure how it works for international shipments but USPS Priority mail has $50 insurance by default.

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

The 594.1 was claimed to be 3mw IIRC by the seller. I tried to measure it on my laserbee but being TEC based it's hard to get accurate low powered measurements. Need to get my Opir head set up with a Rubicon LPM soon. Using my Eyeball Mk I. LPM it looks to be about the same as my other 594 tube...

    Question about 593.5nm wavelength classification

Ah very cool. The use case you mentioned was exactly what I was thinking of picking one up for since getting a real spectrometer anytime soon is not going to happen.

    Question about 593.5nm wavelength classification

How well do those work with lasers? Actually how do you use those with a laser? Obviously you can't point it at the scope so do you look at the beam in a dark room or project it onto say a white card and look at that?

Is the END of portable lasers nigh?

The days of easily accessable high powered hand held lasers is rapidly coming to en end and that may not be a bad thing. They'll never be able to stop the importation of the parts needed to build high power hand helds. That said I'm really glad I bought my CNI 589 and JetLasers 473 last year...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price [Now shipping] Other than my CNI 589 and JL 473 that I bought in July of last year my recent additions to my collection have been a 594.1 HeNe, 10 mw (40mw max) ML Argon, an 1145P HeNe, and the little tube from this GB. Honestly with the exception of...

    Blowing things up in IOWA

Ha. That first one was great. What part of Iowa were you in? I'm about half way between Omaha and Sioux Falls.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Tonight I ran the tube at 6.5A for about 75 minutes, let it idle for about 10 then turned it back up until the light meter on the controller said 10mw. Current mode 5.94 A Light mode: 5.98 A (10.02 mw was as close to 10 as I could get).

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Yeah I knew it was fairly easy to get to. Took about two minutes to get the front off. 2014-08-18_04-52-49pm by ltkernelpanic, on Flickr That confirms why it's a hard starting tube. Over 9,000 hours on it. I can't remember how many my other argon has off the top of my head but I think...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

So for grins and giggles I decided that 78F wasn't hot enough in my work room/office and hooked up my 2111 series head and of course it fired on the first pulse. I'm not sure how many hours are on the 2212 head. I guess the meter isn't too hard to get to in them but I've never taken a...
