    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Ah that sounds much better. I assume that's a spray poly? I do have one of those oil radiator style heaters that I can fire up to speed up the drying time if needed. Unfortunately I don't have anything to spin it so I'll have to be careful and watch for any runs.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Yeah I've already read the the PDF manual and I ordered a bound printed copy when I backed the project. I've never built a coil so I plan on taking it slowly and not rushing things. The one thing that I'm kinda disappointed in is that the secondary doesn't come pre-varnished because that's going...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

The first Tiny Teslas have shipped. I see Fiddy posted he got his tracking number but who knows how long it'll take to get to Australia. Hopefully I'll see mine within a month or so.

    589nm Arrived. A Few Pics.

Sorry I missed your question. The final group by price was just under $600 USD and by the time shipping/insurance to both the GB organizer and myself, PP fees, etc it was a bit north of 700 IIRC. The worst part was waiting 9 days for it to clear customs at JFK's international mail processing...

Who Would Be Interested In Some Brass Hosts?

Wow. Both look great but that first one is amazing. Depending on funds when they go on sale I may be very interested one.

    589nm Arrived. A Few Pics.

Enjoy your new baby. I was a bit apprehensive to drop as much as I did on mine from CNI but 100+ mw of 589nm photons is an amazing sight.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Ah man this thread has been torture over the last couple weeks while waiting for my kit to ship. The good news is the first tiny Tesla kits will ship tomorrow but the bad news is I was in the last round of backers so probably another month for mine. :(

Getting a laser pen into Australia

Australia has very strict laws regarding the importation of lasers (among other things) that are rigorously enforced. Sadly thanks to idiots lasing planes the US is heading that way too. If you really want to try to order a laser I'd probably buy the individual components (which may not make it...

Getting a laser pen into Australia

Having recently watched a bunch of episodes of that Australian border security show you'd have to be insane to try an import a laser there. They damned near arrested one guy for bringing in one in his carry on bag.

    Yobresal is back!

Wow. I was just thinking a few days ago I need to get around to fixing the laser I bought from you a few years ago and that it was kinda sad another vet had gone. Then I saw this thread. Glad to see things are back on the up swing for you again!

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Fired up the blue space heaters one more time before putting them back in storage for another month or two.

    Damn! Mighty fine work there.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

I can't wait for the guys over at The Geek Group to rebuild their coils that were damaged in the fire last year but sadly they probably won't get started on them until fall at the earliest. Also looks like the folks at oneTesla will be posting detailed timeline for the shipping of the various...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Sadly I think I'm in the last round of backers so I doubt I'll see it for another month or so. The first round is supposed to ship mid-month last I heard. I'm looking forward to it though. I've wanted to build a coil for a long time and a bigger coil like ones in this thread are too big for...

    new router needed

I've been using a Netgear N600 (WNDR3700) since last February. No .ac but it's been a fantastic router and runs dd-wrt beautifully. $80 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HWRJY4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

I noticed today my card was charged for my extras from OneTesla's kickstarter from months ago so hopefully my Tiny Tesla will show up sooner than later.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Getting it regassed would be very cool but I can't justify the huge cost for what I use it for.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Well sadly it wouldn't fire after a dozen or so pulses off a cold start. I guess it shouldn't surprise me since it has 9,000 hours on it compared to to my other head that has ~3,500 hours and has no problem firing on the first pulse from a cold start. Oh well it's no big deal to let the tube...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Hauled both heads out tonight and once again my usually hard starting head fired on the first pulse after warming up for 5-8 minutes while I set up my other argon (which if course fired on the first pulse as usual). I'm curious to see if the smaller tube will fire on the first pulse from a cold...

Do you need to wear eye protection at all times

The answer for me is "it depends." There was a thread about this topic in the polls forum last summer. I think my reply there sums up my feelings in this thread too. From the other thread: For reference the thread in the polls forum is here...
