    Tesla Coil Build Thread

So nearly a year after backing the project and four months after receiving my kit I put the fourth coat of varnish on the secondary which means I can finally start building the coil itself! One thing I noticed is that if you ordered the SD interrupter for the Tiny Tesla or ordered the One Tesla...

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

Ar-Kr is next on my bucket list of gas lasers but unfortunately small frame single phase ones aren't cheap.

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

Glad you got it working. Bare HeNe tubes while a bit dangerous are a thing of beauty when running.

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Okay drug both argons out of storage tonight after sitting there for four months. As usual my rectangular head fired on the first pulse but surprisingly my normally stubborn cylindrical head fired on the third pulse after warming for maybe three or four minutes. Maybe it's slowly being nursed...

    HeNe PS woes..[solved] photo update:JDSU 1135P dissection/decanned

Re: HeNe power supply wiring connection woes.. FWIW I use this PSU from MI with my 1145p ad it works great. https://www.mi-lasers.com/product/ac-hene-laser-power-supply-for-18-to-25-heads-2/ It can put put 2700-3900 VDC at 5.5-7.0mA. The PSU JDSU recommends outputs 3800VDC@6.5mA so it's...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

I haven't given mine a burn since February. I just don't have a place I can keep them set up for more than a couple days. Need to remedy that very soon.

    FedEx? Really?

Memphis is their main sort hub so I'm not surprised your package went there first. It seems counter intuitive to send a package half way across the country then back but overall it's much more efficient. Like UPS they have in house customs facilities there too. FWIW when I had my 473 from...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Man there's been some great builds posted lately. I'm almost embarrassed to admit it but after waiting 8+ months to get my Tiny Tesla kit aside from opening it to make sure there was no damage in shipping I haven't touched it since. Maybe after work I can try to get the first coat of varnish on...

    Importance of decent battery chargers

Having bought several of the *Fire branded chargers over the years and not really trusting them (though to be honest I never had an issue with them until one up and died) I decided to spend the money and get a good one. I bought this one from Amazon. It was 40 bucks then and currently sells sor...

    593.5nm 2-4mW pointer review(ish)

Nice pics. I'd like to get a 593.5 (that's not an HeNe) to go with my 589 someday but they cost way too much for what you get IMO. This thread reminds me that I still need to get my 589 GLP fixed sometime.

Got my first 473nm last Wensday and it's my first time seeing it too. Some Pics

Nice. Those B+W Tek 473s are nice little lasers. The one I have has terrible divergence but the color is still amazing. Can't complain for the price I paid. If you think 473 is amazing 488 will knock your socks off and you should probably sit down for 589 and 594. ;)

    iPad users and mobile sites!

Thank you for posting this! I loathe the mobile version of websites 99.9% of the time. I'd stopped visiting LPF on my iPhone because the mobile site sucked IMO.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

I haven't had time to start building my tinyTesla but I remember reading in the manual about having to change the phasing jumpers if nothing happens when you try it. It's on the top of page 13 in the manual. http://onetesla.com/tinyTesla_Manual.pdf Before swapping out parts make sure you've...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Today I arrived home to work and found a package on my porch that I wasn't expecting. To my surprise and delight it was my Tiny Tesla kit which is perfect timing since I have a three day weekend coming up. After work tomorrow I'm going to swing by Lowe's and grab some of that quick drying poly...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Awesome laser and awesome coil! I'm still hoping to get my Tiny Tesla kit by the end of the month but it's probably not going to happen. According to their latest update they're into round four of backers so it's getting closer. Guess I should start cleaning out my work area so I have a place to...

Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for a federal ban on the sale of green lasers...

As I said in a thread a couple years ago a couple times in every congressional session ole Chuckie gets a burr up his ass about something and vows legislation to 'fix' it and 99.99% of the time it never makes it out of sub-committee.

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

I'm not sure what gauge they use but from the pics in the manual it's pretty fine stuff. I'm guessing when the secondary was wound there must have been some adhesive on the tube because it says if the wire breaks when making the connection to the toroid to use a sharp razor to separate the top...

    Tesla Coil Build Thread

Thanks again for the info. Depending on when I get mine I may try to do a morning and evening coat as well. They recommend three coats IIRC but I'll probably do five to be safe. The latest update is the manuals were supposed sent off for printing today so who knows when people who ordered a...

Pgl 589 gb, dead in the water.

Re: PGL-III-C-589 80mW GB Heh. I popped back into this thread to see how it was going and was happy to see that too. Sadly he'll be back I'm sure but at least he'll be easy to spot. Enjoy your lasers folks as they're an amazing piece of kit. Make sure you get a good battery for it too.
