    Donating to LPF

The help members have given me here has been invaluable. I just donated $10 :)

    help identifying diode and specs

Our posts crossed... Yes the LM358 is a good linear driver and I have bought from Odic before they are a reputable company. You will need to heatsink the big chip on the driver though, use heat sink compound and bond it to something big and metal..

Is it to be in a hand held or a "lab" style mount? You don't have to work out the internal resistance and use a resistor, but this changes with temperature. Safer to build a current regulator that will feed it the right current no matter what the voltage. You have lots of choices, you could go...

    450nm.

You do get two AAA batteries for free I guess... Anything that is handheld and battery powered and legal in Australia won't burn by the way. That's the point. Edit: To give you a very rough idea of burning power, here is what I have: 120mW 405nm (purple) which will burn black stuff within...

    450nm.

Yes if it's 1mW you won't be able to burn much. I have bought a "40mW 405nm" module off ebay and it burned things ok. Or build up a PHR diode laser from scratch (about 100mw).

First make sure you have adequate eye protection for this, a watt at IR is very nasty. You can get reflections off lots of objects and you can't see the beam being IR. If you google 1000mW 808nm data sheet you would be wanting about 1.4amps to drive this. A simple linear driver would probably...

"CLOSED.!!!" GB: For The New 3.8mm Red Diodes 660nm (REFUNDING.!!!!!!)

Re: "CLOSED.!!!" GB: For The New 3.8mm Red Diodes 660nm (Taking Payments for Round 2) Lazerer, You're doing a good job under adverse circumstances! I'm still hoping the originals exist, otherwise I'd be interested in duals, 150mW 653 single modes, and 3.8mm 12x's. We'll see what happens...

Want to build a He-Ne Lamp, help.

You can often pick up the little 4" HeNe's they used to use in bar-code scanners Fiddy, I have a 12v one here I bought on the forums for about $40. I'll take a pic if you like..

What kind of Laser carries the Mars rover Curiosity???

Yep, here it is: From ChemCam: under the hood: ""We changed the laser medium from Nd:YAG to a rod of Nd:KGW, or neodymium-doped potassium-gadolinium tungstate, which was longitudinally pumped by a 700 W diode stack," Durand explained. "The wide spectral acceptance of the Nd:KGW rod provides...

What kind of Laser carries the Mars rover Curiosity???

I think I read somewhere it was a pumped YAG laser. I know if fires high energy short duration pulses. I've seen it mentioned online somewhere.... I'll look again.

Oh, I haven't designed anything lately, been so busy at work. I would definitely be interested if i had anything i need making. When does it have to be in by?

    DIY Laser Cutter Project

Re: My (16 month :D ) holiday project - DIY Laser Cutter Wow way cool Dan!!!! I think I have found where to take my PCB's to be etched now! Oh and get laser cut polycarbonate! We will have to work out a rate :) I read about people coating PCB's with paint and using low power (200mW 660nm)...

Mark a laser track on a paper

I was going to suggest thermal fax paper. They also used to use it in POS receipt printers. Spark fun has it here. I haven't tried but you could probably melt Styrofoam with a laser without much trouble if it was dark coloured.

    Anyone ordered from OdicForce

Yes I bought some stuff from their eBay account including some drivers, modules and some other stuff (I can't remember what exactly now). They all came with lots of information and instructions and seemed like a very reasonable trustworthy alternative to the Chinese sellers.

I would think you would have to be careful not to melt the tubing!

Re: "CLOSED.!!!" GB: For The New 3.8mm Red Diodes 660nm (Taking Payments for Round 2) Through all of this I think people need to remember that GB's may not always go as expected. For some of us its worth the risk for the chance of getting something exotic / unusual / cheap that wouldn't be...
