Faulty Laser Diode? Or did I fry it...

Those Sony 405nm are kinda wack imo. I had a 150mW version a while ago. I decided to over drive it slightly, I'm guessing 200mA. It died after 3 days. I think it's just the nature of these 405nm diodes. I heard that they are very delicate to current spikes and seem to die often. My friend has a...

Where can I buy a 7 watt laser?

I think the biggest sin/crime is him choosing blue lasers for a death star build when it should have been a green laser.

Where can I buy a 7 watt laser?

If this post is real... I mean.... How do you keep going after they confiscate your items? I'd stop trying after the first attempt. At this point I'm kinda used to seeing these fishy posts but seriously, it just feels like we are being sent running in circles answering these posts. It doesn't...

    Newly Completed 1W Greenie

I got the G7 from taobao and G8 from Trinh. I'm not too sure about other sources, but i think some place like Dtr's laser shop, survival lasers or eBay can be good options if you live in the NA.

    Newly Completed 1W Greenie

If you have some isopropyl alcohol and a piece of microfiber cloth, you could use it to clean the lens. Just take everything apart and give it a gentle wipe, and then put everything back together. Do try to use 99% isopropyl alcohol if possible, lower concentrations of IPA will leave water...

    Lightly Weatherproofed/Waterproofed 505nm <100mW build

I have always wonder about waterproofing lasers. I never really attempted it because i didn't want to lose a diode unnecessarily. However given that i just killed 2 perfectly good 638nm reds, i was feeling a bit crazy and decided to risk losing a sharp 505nm this time. Somehow, things worked out...

Failure analysis help for Sharp 700mW 638nm

Wait...aren't the mits500 known as one of the more durable diodes?

Failure analysis help for Sharp 700mW 638nm

Thanks for the replies folks. Turns out, my mits500 is still alive despite me wiring it in reverse! I think i will attempt to add a capacitor across the output like others once did. Lets see if that does the trick and if the laser will survive more than a week. Edit: I did just that, it worked...

Failure analysis help for Sharp 700mW 638nm

Ah i see, that's a bummer, there goes the set of 3 RGB sharp diode builds that i wanted to do. I'm thinking i should just switch back to the mits500. Will a mits500 fair better against such a driver? i have saw many posts here about running the mits500 with an amc7135 based driver. I'm...

    Its a canned diode.

Failure analysis help for Sharp 700mW 638nm

Hey folks, i just recently LED-ed a sharp 700mW 638nm diode. Its quite odd to me since it has been functioning well for 1 week, without any issues. I ran it at 650mA using an AMC7135 based LED driver. It just died all of a sudden. After a bit of checking, it seems like there could...

    Oiling Threads

Hey if you ever try to attempt solving a Rubik's cube by yourself, I recommend watching a few videos on commutators and creating your own algorithms. It's much more rewarding than memorizing algorithms online. Back to the lube topic. Well to be honest I don't really know what's the difference...

    Oiling Threads

Well some of the higher quality cubes do cost quite a bit, >30usd per cube IIRC. It mostly drained my wallet because i decided to collect a bunch. Nothing really special about being able to solve it, most people learn the method online and just memorize the algorithms to put the cube back into...

    a New sharp 505nm 80mw diode?

I appreciate the link sourcing but the one i saw on taobao is actually already quite cheap, at 21usd only. I'm a broke ass university student so i'm not really gonna buy it unless someone here shows that it can be pushed to 200mW while staying <510nm

Grant Imahara - passes away at age 49

Mythbusters was one of the major catalysts in my life that pushed me towards the STEM field. Grant will be missed by many. He shall rest in peace knowing that he inspired millions.

    Oiling Threads

It does work, but i think it could interfere with electrical conductivity if you used too much of it. Anyway, i've been using silicone lube for my laser hosts and never come across that problem. To borrow a quote from the competitive cubing community, "A little goes a long way." So yeah just use...

    Oiling Threads

If possible, do not use any oil based lubricants (Mineral oil, vaseline, baby oil etc) when there is an O-ring present. It tends to eat away at the O-ring. Instead, you can use a small amount of silicone-based lubricant, like the ones used for competitive rubiks cubes. Those do not have a...

    a New sharp 505nm 80mw diode?

Yup, this is a new sharp diode. I've seen it on taobao for around a month now. Only thing stopping me from buying one is the price. Its almost 4 times the price of a regular sharp GH05035A2G. I didn't think much about it since i have a GH05035A2G at >100mW and 507nm. I think there is a chance...
