if it isn't an illusion, maybe there's something (like a fouled thread) preventing the lens from being completely screwed in? (I can see the warning sticker: "WARNING! if resistance is encountered, do not attempt to screw in lens" ;-)

ok... can you flip the lens, so the screwdriver slot is on the inside toward the LD? that should put the actual lens closer... the focus may be waay too far though, so start checking results before getting it too far screwed in.

yeah, you're right, if there's a visible beam he probably has plenty of power out - because seeing the beam can be difficult with 405nm without fog or smoke, unless it's really dark. So maybe all he needs to do is screw the focus out more to get burning; and seat the diode to be able to focus...

I just noticed that... he's trying to do 2 different things there, and my suggestion didn't catch that. He should have been able to focus close, if he screws it the right way; but even at close focus, it would be better to have that diode straight and flush. :) DanQ

it sounds like maybe you don't have the diode pressed in all the way. Dave has a diagram of that somewhere... another reason for full pressing is it ensures the diode is straight - if it's even a bit off you'll lose a lot of power. Fixing the focus and making sure it's straight may make a huge...

It sounds like it was on before he fell asleep. I've used mine as a "night light" - not keeping it on, but next to my bed to use if I get up at night. Just aiming to the ceiling makes the whole room glow nicely. It might be a good idea not to use one of the newer high-powered (like 6X) in bed...

yeah... someone on that DX page commented about poor regulation, so you likely are getting >350mA. maybe 600mA? either way, you have a very bright light! :-) DanQ

Lacquer thinner often does the job, where others just sit there and evaporate up yer nose to dissolve your brain (but so will the l.t.) if they're in series, they're each and all getting 6 amps! but that DX driver you used says output regulated to 320mA ??? maybe you put them in parallel? but...

I don't know the motives of all the players - I think not all are just for profit - but agree, too many GB's are not Group buys. As has been said before (by me and others), a Group Buy is supposed to be where ALL interested LPF members GROUP their purchases to maximize purchasing leverage...
