    Better heat conduction with Ag

Graphene does what diamond does, but only in two dimensions, not three, since it is a two-dimensional crystal structure, innit? Not sure what kind of use that would have, heat spreader maybe, for a non-radiative heatsink? All this thermal stuff can get confusing, sometimes it's best to just...

Wierd polygonal Zerodur laser lens, what do you think its function was?

Perhaps you could use it as a more compact version of your beacon/transmitter project, for to concentrate the beacon function without concentrating it too much.

Driver not putting out full power

Reds are pretty sensitive, red open cans even more sensitive. My only high power reds were LOC, and of the 5 I had, I killed 2 or 3 of 'em. Now, I had five, so I wasn't as cautious as I could have been, but things you can do to protect your diodes from ESD is you can wrap a strand of wire...

I need a cheap throwy light for working in a summer camp

Hmm, sure those places might already be lit, but what if the lighting QUALITY isn't as nice as a high-cri LED?:eg:

    rare earth magnet...

My dad used to go get mercury by the jarful to play with when he was a kid. Just went to the local refinery, I guess they use it for oil refining somehow maybe. He seems fine, though admittedly, he never drank the stuff.

Wierd polygonal Zerodur laser lens, what do you think its function was?

Not a clue. Not even an educated guess. But my uneducated guess is that it is for fiber injection. Or for beam shaping for some powerful optical tweezers. Or perhaps it was a laser technician's favorite paperweight.

IR LASER Driver Project on Shooting Simulator.

The specifications look right to me. A note about your battery, it is a 12V battery, but your laser will not require this much voltage. You could go with 3 stacked button cells to power this module. In this case, probably LR41 cells. Make sure to get Alkaline, not silver oxide and not zinc...

DRIVER Q: Multiple Circuits in One Build???

I like ARG's idea. you waste a bit in the regulator, but make up for it by not having a complicated battery compartment. You want to be careful with draining one cell faster than the other with cells in series, so if you go that route, keep an eye on both cells' voltages.

I need a cheap throwy light for working in a summer camp

Some tips with regards to buying based on sellers' pictures alone, on how to pick a throwy flashlight. A large reflector is a good indication that the light will throw nicely. If all else is the same (same LED outputting same # of lumens), the larger the reflector outside diameter is, the less...

    LPF User Only Section?

This thought was probably aimed at open-source projects meant to benefit the community, but the way I see it, if it is open-source, our friends in China will start making these items that our bright forum members planned and released. While in spirit, they are doing so for profit, which goes...

So I hear 532nm DPSS has best divergence

What is typical divergence for an uncorrected raw 532nm output for a typical 12mm module before correcting lenses, anybody know? Anybody know length of dpss resonant cavity? If you are very concerned about divergence, use bigger lenses ;)

Correct me if I am wrong but...

Both options are potentially correct, or potentially incorrect. It depends. Need more data. We don't know how much flutterpie has played, and even then, we could only get a "gut feel" whether or not it is legit or scammy. Basically, we can't be sure this is a scam or legit. This outcome...

    Encouragement?

It's strange, the most caustic people seem to make the most successful upper management folks. It's hard to feel like you are working for something you believe in when working as a server or busboy or something, but if you can find something about the job that you feel is important to your...

    Constant power

You'll need to buy a laser with stabilized power via optical feedback. Depending on how stable you need it, you're looking at ~$50 for a cheaper one to thousands for a lab-grade, astronomical, wavelength locked, optically stabilized, super-deluxe GTX-r laser.

IR LASER Driver Project on Shooting Simulator.

100mW is the maximum optical power that the manufacturer is claiming that diode can output. If you feed it less current, though, it will put out less light. And it being 100mW max is a good indication that it can probably go down to low powers and still lase. If what you are trying to achieve...

    Lowest divergence laser diode?

Look for bigger lenses, rather than a fancy laser diode.

What is wrong with those Chinese flashlights?

If it never gets bright, not even for a second, then a driver swap will probably be the most bang for the buck. I don't know what the heatsinking on that light is like, but with an alright heatsink, you should be able to find a cheap AMC7135-based 2.8A driver for it that will run the LED a bit...

    fogger + glycerin = acrolein??

A well-designed fogger shouldn't be burning glycerin, I wouldn't guess... Just watch your heating element temps. E-cigs are a bit more of an iffy subject, since all ecigs subject the glycerin directly to a resistance wire, which, if not properly heatsinked against a moist wick, can glow...

Diodes in Series misbehaving - need electrical help!

Your schematic may not match your actual circuit. If it does, I would say you need new batteries, if two cells sag down to 2.7V when pulling 700mA from them  But you might also consider taking a photo of your setup for us.
