Wow, I think i'm going to knock on wood. I haven't had anything nearly that bad happen to me... The only thing that I can remeber is almost severing my acheles tendon on a buried glass bottle and having one of those spikes form the dishwasher trays go through my cheek...

The barrel twists apart from the base (where the fins end). It is not necessary to heat any parts to make them come loose. There ARE two little spots of epoxy though. One is one the lens (from the outside of the laser) and the other on the inside on the Heatsink threads. After unthreading...

Might be able to do it with a taper attachment, not sure though.. That's something I've never attempted before :p But if wanted to get some serious angle you would need a conical knurling tool

Some of the cloud around the 445 is from imperfection, the lens I was referring to was the collimating lens :p

Does anybody else machine out their own tools? Boring heads, part stops... That's what I usually machine, laser parts are just the fun stuff:)

The 445 diode creates a rectangular shaped dot because it's a multimode diode, and the imperfections appear from my experience to be contaminants on the lens, possibly from being touched while it was installed...

Spyders come up quite often in the B/S/T so I'd just sit back and keep and eye out for one when it comes up that it's your range ;)
