    O-Like 80mw 473nm Lab Unit

I second that. Even higher quality lasers can take 15 minutes to reach full power and stabilize. Run it for a half hour straight, on a heat sink, and then measure power :D

    Divergence

I have a 10" hene with horrible divergence, then I have a tiny melles griot (like 4-5") with really good divergence. Go figure. Cavity length does play a factor, but another factor in gas lasers is bore size. The best divergence from any gas laser that I've seen is from my HeCd. The beam is...

Important FYI on your buying ur first argon

also note that the 458nm line does NOT taste like blueberries

Fiber and laser beams [TO MANY PICS]

The reason the beam wont collimate is because, in relation to laser fiber, that fiber is probably HUUUGE. I have a fiber coupled HeNe here and I've fitted an aixiz lens on the end and it collimates it perfectly. You just need some smaller fiber :o

    Argon Night ---

488 is awesome... It's just such a pain to drag out the big laser, even though it is pretty to watch it run. I just got this little guy to tide me over... solid state 488... freakin' sweet!

    Is this a CO2 laser?

    mmmm..... gassy

    Is this a CO2 laser?

He said mine is one of the nicest 168's he'd seen in a long time... thinks it will do 9W at full blast :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

    Is this a CO2 laser?

The outer portion of the tube is 100% glass, this is where the water flows. Then there is an inner layer which is about 30% glass, and like diachi says under the magnet there is a BeO tube (so it goes magnet, glass, flowing water, BeO then argon plasma) so the Beo is completely surrounded by a...

    Is this a CO2 laser?

solid state is nice... but it will never be as sexy....

    My New Toy 19mW HeNe

I'm jealous!! I have a JDSU 1145P (I think it's the same laser you have there in the picture... but if not, it's rated for the same power) but I have no PSU to power it up with... It needs like 4kV @ 6-7mA and the biggest HeNe PSU I have is only 3kV.... wont light it, it just makes it flash...

    Lexel 95-4 Argon Ion Laser

I always wished my SP265 power supply looked more like a lexel 95 PSU... oh well... cool laser! I saw you subscribe to my youtube, and I just knew there must be a new ion laser owner out there...

    Known scammers!

what I found when I opened the module, was that the negative wire going to the little wire on the c-mount was not making any contact at all. Either it came from the manufacturer with a bad solder joint and it broke, or some wires got pulled and disconnected it somehow, but the problem with the...

    Just wonderingif possible 808-404nm

In theory yes, in practice -- not really. The problem with edge-emitting diodes (like all of ours are) is that they have really shitty beam specs. In order to frequency double, one needs to have a very very good beam quality and a crystal capable of phase matching at the given wavelength...

    Yellow, yellow... yellow.

A good lab yellow would definitely not be unstable. It has all the temperature controls required to make it stable. The pointer you are correct about, because it lacks all the temp control features. As far as a burning yellow laser, which is truely 593.5, you'll be spending much more than your...

FAKE 150mW Nichia diodes being sold

Another thing we have to remember is that these power readings were taken through a lens. I didn't catch which lens it actually was, but this could cause the "kink" to appear to be around 150, when the diode is actually putting out a bit more. If it was one of the newer good lenses, we're only...

FAKE 150mW Nichia diodes being sold

My point exactly!! Very well said. We are so used to diodes that will do 200% of their rating, but we need to stop and think that this may change. As the manufacturing process gets more refined, I expect to see the ability to grossly overdrive decreasing in the future. The older diodes had to be...

FAKE 150mW Nichia diodes being sold

Well, just to play devils advocate, and this may have already been addressed (because, to be honest... I didn't read every word of the thread) BUT!!! Can we always expect a diode to perform way above and beyond it's rating? I mean, the technology to manufacture these things is always changing...
