    Blu-Ray Current

I just checked my current draw on my 803T build and it's now reading in the 135ma range. I set it at 125ma, it has magically risen +10ma. So I'm not sure why, or what's happening or if this is normal as my single CR123A drains. Either way, it's working fine. I should mention my setup again...

    My 803T blu-ray

If the host holds three AAA batteries, that's a total of 4.5volts on primary cells, or 3.6volts on rechargeables.

Or blow it out with some canned air

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

I took the same approach as you plan to, starting off at ~90ma and seeing how it does. I want mine to last a long time too and I didn't want to immediately ramp it up to a higher current. I think most things need a little "breaking in" and my theory was that if I "eased" the diode into a higher...

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

I wouldn't mind at all, it's a great host, just barely enough room for everything. It takes some creativity fitting everything in, so if you need help let me know.

    803T Max and nominal current?

Just the aixis housing the diode is pressed into.

    Blu-Ray Current

I'm running my PHR-803T at 125ma now. No problems so far, just watch the duty cycle. My diode is only heatsinked by the Aixis housing it sits in. I kept it on for over a minute at 125ma and it hardly warmed up. I would love to know what the max safe current really is for these diodes, however...

    803T Max and nominal current?

I'm up to 125ma now and it's been running fine so far. The difference between 90ma and 125ma is pretty dramatic.

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

Thank you! It's my first self-build and I'm very proud of how it turned out!

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

It was because I was kneeling down getting the shot appropriately lined up in the LCD screen of my camera which required me to move slowly to the right. I'm still laughing about this. My wife said, "that's alarming" which I choose to take as a compliment ;D

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

Ok, you've seen the PHR-803T build I did in the DX MTE 6watt cree flashlight housing. Well it was running solid with no heat build up at 100ma. So I cranked it to 125ma and it's running cool and the power is awesome. BUT I burnt my arm while setting up a photo! I was noticing a stinging coming...

    Blu-Ray Current

Been running mine for the past week at 100ma, no issues. No heat sink to speak of, just the Aixis housing it's pressed into. I never run it for more than 2mins at a time though.

Why would you want to do this anyways?

    PHR-803T for about $20

I've been driving mine at 105ma for a few days now with no problems. I don't leave it on for more than a minute or two though. No heatsink other than the Aixis housing.

    installing diode into aixiz housing

Definitely a good idea. My housing is a little dinged up but it's hidden under the plastic cap I made:

    803T seems to be bad

    That's correct, here's the pinout:

luring lightning with laser, need help

You'd be better off firing a model rocket in the air with a coil of fine wire attached to it. I saw that on television, so if you kill yourself doing it, not my fault :P

    803T seems to be bad

Yea, that was the first thing I was thinking, pin connection is wrong. The middle pin is just a direct connect to the case and nothing else, so it will always appear open. No different than testing a length of copper wire.

    Recommendations

My vote is for the Romisen based laser. It's a nice, sturdy, dustproof unit. The other one is a little too gimmicky for my taste.

    Warnlaser ad banner on LPF

I think the heart of the problem is that any ad appearing on a laser enthusiast site will be seen as having a "stamp of approval" by said laser enthusiasts, creating a false sense of confidence. But the other side of the argument has it's merits too. Do what is necessary to keep LPF up and...
