Yep those batteries will be fine and they will fit that holder. I wouldn't count on them being charged when you get them so you need a charger, that's for sure.

No, the other way 'round, these IR diodes have their anode connected to their case, so it touches the battery + directly. The driver goes between battery - and the diodes isolated cathode.
