That is a good link, but a laser diode should be driven at a constant current not a constant voltage. You can use the 7805 as a constant current supply, but it requires a much higher voltage than the LM317, it is also much less stable.

When you do, be sure to make a new thread in the Experiments & Modifications board about it. :)

I think Blue has made you a pretty good offer, but I, as well as other members here I'm sure, would be happy to try to help you replace the pump diode. Another option might be to contact one of the more reputable laser companies and ask if they would treat it as an out of warranty repair.

If that pump diode ever saw 3.7V it's dead for sure. Can you open it up and see if those two wires go straight to the diode?

Take a deep breath there wooooooolazer. I know it probably is dead, but let's do a little testing before we bury it.

It is very likely that the pump diode is dead, but we'll see. What battery did you connect it to?

Re: MXDL Over 300mW! is that the DX AMC7135 board with only one 7135? For the power you're getting out of it it sounds like you're running it at closer to 700mA not 350mA. Also, did you have your ND filter in front of the power meter?

I too like to drive my LDs a little softer while I am trying to focus or aim them; but I normally just use a potentiometer to adjust the current to the LD. If you want a simple two-setting (stun or kill?!?!? LOL) driver, get youself two 1/2 Watt 5 Ohm resistors (or four 1/4 Watt 10 ohm...

One of my DIY reds happened to it, and just for a few minutes. The B&W cam was even worse! Just a few pixels left in one corner. :o

Sorry, but most DVD burner diodes do not have an internal PD. It is very hard to look at a laser diode and then find a datasheet for it. You'd be better off I think ordering some from StoneTek as we do have a datasheet for these, and they have been pushed very hard with outstanding results...

AaronX987, Gazoo is the one to listen to about this. I've only used current regulators on my LDs.
