It's going to be a little tougher to organise, since i'm now away at university. I will be around every couple of weekends at best, but I will be staying at home again over Christmas, when I hope to next do it and be able to get some pictures of the beam in the dark.
It was pretty sunny that...
Oh, sorry. That sentence was hard to word. It's turned on manually to avoid smoking 'em. Not sure why it's turned on at 4:00, but the park closes at dusk so if they want to set a regular time for switching it on then they need to do it quite early.
It's pretty cool, it lights up. Personally, i'd prefer to have a 10cm x 10cm hole in my bedroom wall so I could fire lasers out of it. The laser unit itsself is on a platform attached to the ceiling. It could hold a whole collection of handheld lasers and send beams flying everywhere.
Raise your hand if you recognise the following view:
It's the view from the top of the hill in Greenwich park. It looks slightly different at night:

See that almighty green line? That's a five Watt laserscope, coming from the Royal Observatory.
Well, guess what? My sister...
Yeah, that makes perfect sense. As mentioned somewhere in the thread, the cheap 5mW ones are usually much more than 5mW - often up to 50mW. The reason for this is basically 5mW lasers are in more demand than others because of US laws, so the companies often stick >5mW ones into the 5mW bin...
Ok, cool. Was just checking. We get a LOT of spam here so the question sort of had to be asked. I should have thought that accusation through a bit better, i guess.
Anyway, welcome to the forum! Enjoy your stay, remember to use the search bar when possible rather than starting a new thread and...
webvan: Do you work for wsdeal? If so, this is the wrong way to advertise your website. If not, it's frowned upon to appear to be advertising a company on your first post.
My latest laser looks somewhat like that :D

A laser I could DEFINITELY use for self-defence, whether day or night!
Well, we're getting into a different issue here. I still think a gun, a knife and a laser all at once is excessive for self defence - there is nothing you could hurt with a knife or laser that you couldn't with a gun. Carrying a gun for self defence, a knife for useful stuff and a laser just for...
Yup. I carry a templar on my belt, three folding knives in each pocket, a flamethrower in my backpack, a revolver in the pocket with my wallet and an AK-47 inside my trouser leg. My belt buckle is loaded with a high explosive and in my other trouser leg there is a battery powered 500W Argon...
I felt like it! :D
As this is my first real knife, is there anything I should be aware of regarding knife care, or is that stuff not worth bothering with for a 9 Euro souvenir-shop knife? Either way, I like it a lot.
I recently got my first decent knife. It cost 9 Euros from a souvenir shop in Spain and is by a company called Crossnar. I'll be putting up pictures when I feel like it, but you guys will probably just tell me how awful it is.
Also, you're better off using a blowtorch. This has been discussed time and time again and (unfortunately) a laser is nothing like a lightsaber. Lighting fireworks with lasers is so impractical that any coolness factor which would otherwise be present is vastly outweighed by the impracticality...
Hey! Welcome to the forum!
Do you know about AixiZ modules, drivers, lenses, hosts & heatsinks, etc? How much have you read about DIY? And are you able to solder? Basically wondering whether you're a "let's build something exciting" person or an "I want a to burn stuff with a laser!" person.
That might be American slang, but not British. Here some folk refer to a penis as a knob. I prefer "cock" that's my favorite word for it.
LOL @ how i finally de-railled this thread.
