Very easy. Look at a multi mode 635 at 15 meters. You have these stripes with gaps between them. And everything is square. Besides the laser speckle we all know, the beam could pass for a high power "collimated" LED. I'm not knocking high power 635. I'm sure good quality ones are available. But...

Um... actually I can make a comment like this because I own a high power 635nm. If you read my post again I was saying how horrible the beam is of these multimode lasers. 2x660nm coupled may not be as bright but at least it looks more like a laser at a fraction of the price! Yes 635 is brighter...
