5W Blue Laser Pointer control with Raspi 3 B+

What laser pointer do you have? It may not be possible to control this very fast depending on how it's set up. If you're trying to modulate it any faster than you can turn it on and off with the laser-pointer's own power switch you may have problems. For modulating the laser with the Pi at high...

Hi all, does anyone know the amount of voltage drop across a 450nm m-140 ld

You have to also bear in mind the voltage drop across the current shunt resistor you end up using. - so V=I*R for the current measurement and the measured shunt value (don't use the quoted value, measure the shunt yourself). I think the datasheet operating range for the M140 is 3.7V-5.5V so...

CLOSED: Osram PL 530 Modules: 808 nm to 530 nm OPSL Technology - Narrow .3 nm Linewidth (new, old stock)

495 dollars for a driver and a metal box? Madness

Looking for a laser for 600yard application.

well said indeed - if I may, will also add that since a project that's unsafe, irresponsible, or illegal is something that may have a knock-on effect on this hobby or community, such a project is not in our collective interest to assist with. Whether such a hazardous laser is right for your...

    Convoy S2+ 405nm & 450nm Builds

Thanks Rich - I do like your Convoy hosts - but since this set is all "low" power (aiming for 100-300mW each) that aspect is less important to me. Having enough space to set up a workshop is not likely to be possible while I'm renting but when I get the opportunity I'd love to experiment with...

    Convoy S2+ 405nm & 450nm Builds

Good to hear! Looking forward to adding a red one into this set without the many hours of filing and sanding for my lathe-free method!

    DTR G8 lens

These sound great - I'll have to remember to get one or two next time I order from Jordan...

    Convoy S2+ 405nm & 450nm Builds

Thanks! The copper module & aluminium heatsink are indeed DTR's 20mm ones. Since the thermal connection between the copper and the host is indirect (through the aluminium and then through the brass threads to the host), I'm using the 20mm modules to give it a bit more thermal mass. I'd machine...

    Convoy S2+ 405nm & 450nm Builds

Hi again - Another in the series of builds I'm putting in Convoy S2+ hosts - This may be my last build log of these for a while as I've settled on a build method that can be replicated with only a very limited range of tools, so if I make any more lasers using this method in the S2+, I won't...

Looking for a laser for 600yard application.

The 520 will likely give you a wider beam as it uses a multimode direct-diode approach, inferior in beam quality to a DPSS in your case. Either will work fine at 600feet with the 10x beam expander (according to their specifications), but both will fail at producing a 6" spot at 600' without it...

    BestLaserPointers.com 3W review 5stars

Glad you weren't ripped off - but this is nothing new unfortunately. Very unlikely to be 3W as you've stated - but no way to definitively know without a LPM. Very common that chinese manufacturers produce a laser that looks like this - Kind of looks like a Thor H host...

CLOSED: Osram PL 530 Modules: 808 nm to 530 nm OPSL Technology - Narrow .3 nm Linewidth (new, old stock)

All the best for the trip - and no worries. Getting some of these modules is a curiosity not an urgent need so any delay is fine AFAIC :)

    Hello from New York

Welcome :) You've got some nice handhelds there - and you'll fit in well if your Intro is anything to go by! Enjoy your stay.

    Thorlabs L658P040 Driver Construction/Selection

You can ignore it if you want to - you'd likely need more complicated circuitry than a basic LM317 CC circuit if you wanted to use the monitor photodiode. Provided you only drive the diode at safe current limits (according to it's datasheet) you dont strictly need to regulate it using feedback...

    Cool beam expander.

Ruud, this post is 7 years old... The OP of the post also hasn't been online since August 2017 (shows last login on the users's profile). I doubt this BE is still for sale.

    USB Oscilloscope

A shame. Still a great scope though. Good luck with figuring it out - it's not that tricky once you get a handle on some of the menus etc. The help button's pretty useful (if you press it and then press anything else, it'll pull up the documentation for the second thing on screen

1064 mm 1.5 watt PL-E Pro DPSS safety and availability

Thanks Curtis - I didn't know whether it was valid to use the x10 of the beam expander to simply divide the Divergence or not. Thanks for the clarification! Definitely agreed that the expanded beam of that would be terrifying...

1064 mm 1.5 watt PL-E Pro DPSS safety and availability

Jetlasers make good stuff and are reliable yes. I've no idea about them servicing India, but they're a chinese company. You should ask them that directly. The main hazard with such a powerful invisible laser (1064nm is well into the infra-red) is how the damage will be done to your eyesight...

    Polarity

You should check for each individual laser - but if the diode you're using is case-negative (most direct-diode lasers), the battery is likely to have the +ve pointing the diode and the -ve pointing the tailcap. If the diode's case-positive (many DPSS lasers, some diode lasers), then the battery...

    USB Oscilloscope

The hack is useful if you want the extra triggering features, decoders and memory depth - but basically nothing the hobbyist is doing on a $300 scope needs the extra bandwidth :) I usually find i'm turning the B/W limit to 20MHz anyway to make the traces clearer! A couple of caveats to the hack...
