Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

Every lasee diode have multiple peaks within its spectral width. In GaN diodes tjeey are separated by >0.1 nm. Herw a picture of a 488nm from the Thorlabs website: The amplitude of these peaks changes with time, pressure, temperature and so on. Ocean optics also shows this on their website...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

Do you know how they measure and define the wave length? Laser diodes emit all internal modes in a 1-2nm wide band. The strength of every mode depends on many factors and changes with time. Do they perform a fit to the data? If yes, than what kind of fit and to what kind of data? Here two 495nm...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

You are welcome. I received a lot from this forum and it's members so I just try to give some value back to them. 100mA (~45mW output power) and a heatsink temperature of 25°C. I will open a sell thread soon, when I measuremed them all and decided which one I will keep for myself. I don't...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

As for all GaN diodes it is around 1nm per 200mA (if the extra heat is effectivly removed) and ~1nm per 20°K. At some point the this relation becomes nonlinear (when the thermal rollover starts) and is usually higher but also a sign that you close to kill the diode. Without a proper heatsink...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

Thank you Paul. I already new from some companies that override them big time that these GaN diode lasers can take a much higher current than the GaAs diodes (don't really get why but I will find out soon). Seems like their thermal conductance is much better..? I think the max ratings are really...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

So. Today I did the PIV measurements with a TEC stabilized mount and one with TEC turned off (it wasstill mounted to an optical Table but a TEC is a pretty good thermal isolator). Here the results: First with the TEC turned on and stabilzed to 25°C Pretty impressive for my planned...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

I allways use a tec controlled diode mount for my measuremts, but I can also use a passive heatsink afterwards as a comparisson in power and wl change. Singlemode

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

I don't really need to. I was able to pull the 494nm diode up to 499nm with grating feedback and I am really need only 497nm max. So these diodes are what I was looking for! Singlemode

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

    So, today I binned the first 10 diodes from my order of 20. I performed a fit to a Lorentzian distribution (first value) and an extreme peak function (second value). Here the results: | 493.9nm | 493.8nm | | 493.9nm | 493.8nm | | 494.7nm | 494.5nm | | 494.4nm | 494.1nm |...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

It is very interesting that the rumors of sharp aiming to produce 488nm on a large scale are around for many months now. But they officially released 505nm and 495nm on their website. Ether they produce a ton of diodes every time they change their parameters to look for 488nm or they have...

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

The last diode of the 5 Paul tested so far is >495nm :) But I am also looking like you fpr 495nm or higher for scientific purposes. Do you have a link or two? Singlemode

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

I am sure you can push them up to 3 nm with current/temperature. On the side of the spectrum you have the 501/502nm from sharp. What WL are you looking for? Singlemode

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

I have a remote controllable Current driver/TEC controller combination. Never used the included script language for ramp generation though, just the basic functions. If it will take to long to understand it, I will make a curve by hand :) Singlemode

Sharp GH04955A2G/ The New 495nm diodes

Thanks Paul! fnaly real 495nm diodes! Mine will arrive tomorrow but I won't be able to test them before the weekend. Can't wait to cherry pick them :). I can also test the wl shift based on current and temperature independently with a temperate controlled mount. Current wise I can even look...

    505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Wow paul, that went very fast. Were the diodes beamed to you :) ? Please share your results of at least one diode, so we know of it is a real 495nm one! Mine will arrive in some days and I hate waiting so much. Singlemode

    505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Yeah, I am exited like a child at Christmas. These new ones are exactly at the WL what I want for my lab setup and I already started writing a paper draft involving a laser system based on them. I plan to add some members of this forum into the acknowledgments ;) Singlemode PS: The link...

    505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

According to this specsheet: https://www.thorlabs.com/drawings/bfc8d6636698521a-38E0B409-E7FC-1AEB-11016E9DED880949/DJ532-40-SpecSheet.pdf +/- 1nm is within the specs. Singlemode

    505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Like Paul nicely explained, using a fibre is one key ingredient for consistent measurement since the fibre decouples the optical adjustment inside the spectrometer. The second one is a calibration with a known light source. It should be another stable laser or a calibration lamp (<100$ on ebay)...
