Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

I was looking at trying to get hold of the LM350 but I couldn't find one locally which is a shame, the extra current would be nice compared to the 1.5A limit on the 317 :) I think since I've now extracted all the supplies from the previous blown PSU, I'm gonna get some male 24 pin connectors (I...

Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

Spent most of yesterday and this morning get a supply running with a variable LM317 12v feed. Finally got it working, after a few hicups such as having too insulate the binding post for the +12V as it was shorting with the case, and other things such as space constrictions moving the fan around...

CONTEST...Win an LPC-826 NOW GOING THRU MAY 25th

Ah dammit, should have delayed my last laser build a few days thanks for doing this Chip, definitely a nice thing for the community to participate in, thanks to TJ as well for some extra gifts which look pretty awesome +rep to both of you :D Sorry TJ, I have to spread my rep around before I...

Kryton groove duty cycle @1A + SWITCH FIX inside!

Just to confirm, I tried the battery to host without the clicky switch and the laser runs perfectly, so it's definitely a problem with the switches, which is good and bad, atleast it's not the driver/diode :) My dorcy host does the same thing, guess I need to try and find a replacement switch :)

Kryton groove duty cycle @1A + SWITCH FIX inside!

Really? I need to get in touch with Ehgemus then, because it seems the switch in this host causes blinking pretty quickly, it hasn't failed all together though which is why I didn't think it would be the switch. I'll try shorting the battery and host and see if it lasts longer without blinking...

Kryton groove duty cycle @1A + SWITCH FIX inside!

I'm glad I'm not the only person having issue with my flex drive flickering on and off, I noticed it a while ago in my dorcy build, and now it's occuring in my new build as well both set at 1A. I'm going to try heatsinking it to a penny and see if it stops it.

Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

I've been reading a few tutorials, and even though I can't seem to find a PSU with a higher -12V line than 0.8A, quite a few of the tutorials are quoting a maximum current on the adjustable voltage of 1.5A (LM317 limit.) Is there a way of getting the adjustable voltage with out having to use...

Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

If you have any luck I'd love to know, I'm starting to doubt whether you actually need the high amperage on the -12V line, why would the -12v limit the current, when the +12v are like 10-13A. edit: scratch that the lower line is what sets the max amperage. I'm thinking because we only need the...

Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

Welcome :) I think I'm going to end up going the normal route, and build it into the PSU's enclosure because I have one spare. I'm using this guide to do the PSU: How to Convert a Computer ATX Power Supply to a Lab Power Supply - wikiHow and then this guide to build the adjustable voltage...

I hate to do this. Stupid me was waiting to long.

If you recieved the big lens, with the 3 smaller ones exactly as he pictured what are you worried about? If the price was fine then there's no problem, I think you're worried about the expander being home made by the guy? You could possibly be confusing posts he's made about his DIY exapnder...

NJG-18, multimode boost driver for 445nm.. and possibly 650nm

Thanks for the info, always good to learn more :D That cleared up some stuff that I was wandering about, but I think the reason my diode blew was down to my current setting to begin with, I'm going to get a powersupply soon so I can try and set these drivers properly with a test load. I think...

Cheap adjustable PC PSU for test loads!!

Just thought some people might benifit from this web page I came across today and a youtube video, I've been having a problem setting my drivers current because of the batterys loosing voltage before I can set the current, and I needed to find a way of getting a constant 4.2V, and this looks...

The Bullet - De-canned 445nm build! (Lots of pics!)

Thanks for the info DTR, I'll keep it in mind next time round. I really should get hold of a power supply, would definitly make life easier. I'll try those negative/postive inputs next time, yea as you said I'm quite sure it was the driver that probabally shorted, because when it was all setup...

The Bullet - De-canned 445nm build! (Lots of pics!)

Cheers :) No I'm sure the drivers are fine, many people have no problems with them, I have 3 more I intend to use for future builds, how ever I don't have a reliable test load at the moment as the resistor can't stand the higher currents. I'm going to give another build ago soon with the...

The Bullet - De-canned 445nm build! (Lots of pics!)

Space in the bottom part of the pill was already a little tight, that's why I decided to go with taking a case negative further up at the end of the pill, but both ways would have worked :)

The Bullet - De-canned 445nm build! (Lots of pics!)

Thanks :) What do you mean? I used the spring as a positive contact on the stripped NJG18, and the host as a negative contact point, these went through to the flex drive which drove the diode.

    New Package! (56k Warning)

That was originally the plan, however I had problems setting the current on it so I decided to go with a hidden flex drive, and keep a stripped NJG-18 on the end. You can see the final build and pictures here...

The Bullet - De-canned 445nm build! (Lots of pics!)

Hi guys, I posted a thread a few days ago with a few pictures of my newely arrived host/diode and bits, and now have a some pics of it being put together + a build log, I decided to call it bullet, but originally I had planned it too look something a bit like a bullet :D...

    New Package! (56k Warning)

This build has taken me just about all day, but it's finally finished. Had an issue with a diode LED'ding, so I had to take a 445nm from another build, then I ended up decanning the diode after pushing it out of it's previous aixiz module (low and behold the beast still lives) I then had issue...

NJG-18, multimode boost driver for 445nm.. and possibly 650nm

Think I managed to LED my 445nm with the driver, not sure how, the diode is still outputting light, and from what I can tell it's being focused by the lens still but not for any distance. I'd estimate the power at around kinda 2-3mW? doesn't matter what I do to the pot it won't increase in...
