Game: Guess the mystery object !

No, sorry, nothing to do with cables or zip ties. Hint: gas (too easy now :eg:)

Do you carry your laser as self defense at night?

^ LOL, are sodium acetate hand warmers still available around ? ..... here in Italy is a lot of time that i don't see them in shops (maybe for the short time duration, they was lasting 15 or 20 minutes, against the hours of the "fuel type" ones like "zippo" ..... anyway, the working principle is...

    Xenon flash tubes in series

Ehm, a 220-2500V transformer is a bit "risky", you know (ZZZZZAPT :p :D) ..... but you don't need to build it, if you need it, any old neon-sign transformer for small signs can be ok (or you can probably get an used one from some signs companies for relatively cheap) But if you want a portable...

    Xenon flash tubes in series

Are you using a "ladder" multiplier ? (diode-capacitor ladder configuration) ..... or an external oscillator with a battery, like the ones in the disposable cameras ? (bigger, ofcourse) For "ladder" multipliers, it's normal that the current is very low ..... you need to build an "inverter type"...

Game: Guess the mystery object !

Nice variable inductance tuning unit, Sigurth ..... for collectors, actually (and they ask a lot of money, for original parts in good conditions :p) Ok, another easy one, just for pass the time :D Hint: NOT a weapon :p :eg:

    Xenon flash tubes in series

About the coil, air core works, just "tie" all the loops together (it don't need to be elegant ;)) ..... about the diodes, they are there only for "turn off" the counterspike (how do you call it in English ?) from the coil itself, so they are in parallel with the coil, but connected in reverse...

    Xenon flash tubes in series

With serial configuration for high energy banks, balance resistors are not indispensable, but always suggested ..... also, they discharge the capacitors all together when not in use, preventing that one remain partially charged and "blow out" for overcharge the next time you use it. for 330V...

    Xenon flash tubes in series

^ or use a resistor fro charge the caps. BTW, about the 8 or 9 capacitors in serie ..... yes, it increase the total voltage (better use identical ones, each one with a balance resistor), but at the same time, decrease the capacitance (capacitors in serie are the same as resistors in paralel...

Game: Guess the mystery object !

I think piferal is the winner ;) (i cannot expect someone guess the exact name :p) It's an old "flintlock detonator for fuses" ..... for detonate charges in the years when electric detonators was not yet invented. Your turn :D

    Xenon flash tubes in series

8 tubes are too much, for parallel work, probably ..... my units usually uses 2 or 3 tubes in parallel, the max i've tried working, was a big unit with 4 tubes (90% of the times works, randomly one don't flash)

Game: Guess the mystery object !

Uhm, ok, an easy one, this time :p :eg:

    Xenon flash tubes in series

current for tubes in serie is the same, but you need to multiply the voltage for the number of tubes (and finding a 2400V capacitor can be a bit difficult ;)) For the other side, i occasionally build "emergency flashers" for friends (resin-sealed units, for use for emergency in scuba or...

Game: Guess the mystery object !

It look as the inside of a vacuum tube ..... electron cannon ? ..... photon accelerator or photomultiplier ?

Game: Guess the mystery object !

Milling carbide plate ..... as alternative, carbide (widia) cutting tool for take away the "cutting edge" from a hole in the metal (Here is "svasatore", but i don't know the right word in English)

    Argon Bulb

^ LOL :p On the serious side, i think you can use it for a "fast check", but not as reference for calibration, cause i highly doubt that these are single-line lamps ..... also, probably there's some other elements involved in the spectral emission, in the lamp (just wondering about nitrogen...

    $200 (newbie questions)

About the 2 packages, it depend mainly from how the laser is built ..... For the ones that have a "drop-in" module, is enough to get the body in one package and the module in another, and just join them ..... for the ones like the "o-like transformable", is enough to get the main part in one...

    $200 (newbie questions)

For avoid import problems with custom offices, you need to ask to the seller to ship it in 2 different packages (part in one, part in the other), so the content is not a "complete working laser pointer" ..... this way )but you need to check your laws, first), the packages can be marked honestly...

READ AND HEED--this will effect all.(edit-OR maybe not at all)

Sorry if this can feel "rude", but new taxes are the most stupid system for try to "solve" a problem, ANY problem. And trust me, i know what i'm saying ..... i'm Italian, and this is one of the countries that have the higher "pro-capite" tax rate in the world (still increasing :p), and our...

    Argon Bulb

@ piferal: ROTFL at the "coachella lamp" :p :D I know, but in the past, that was one of the use of them ..... the main use, in a certain period of time, cause probably it was more "cool" (regardless the high amount of UV emitted :p) than normal neon lamps (at least, til the introduction of the...

    What'd you get for Christmas?

Yes, food, wine and ..... ..... er ..... ..... sorry, what's the third one ? (uhm, maybe i need to stop working and get some fun, somewhere ..... :p :D)
