Yes, someone suggested teflon tape wrapped on q-tips. Tried it and it caused more smears than there were before. I use Acetone and some micro fibre for optics like the one used to clean googles or sensitive TV screens. Works best for me.

This is because like others already mentioned by having a mulitmode diode you are getting a rectangular beam profile. Depending on which angle or let´s better say from which side you are looking at this beam it either appears to be thin or thick. So by looking at the thin edge it also appears...

It´s nearly the same like a C6 host just made of stainless steel, so you can get this too. It´s not exactly the same but very simmilar to a c6 host and indeed very nice looking :)

I would also take the C6 host. There are even some smaller builds but the C6 host can take one of the 18650 batteries and is still small enough to fit into a pocket. You can order the diode, Axiz module and driver from DTR for a really good price. So almost everything you need to build such a laser.

There are some drivers that are able to work like that(feeded by one battery or by one battery set in series), but can´t tell which ones atm. as I never used such a setup. Just saw some smart guys here using such setups in the past. Most likely this will be some linear drivers. I already asked...
